Malcolm Turnbull risks all in carbon debate | The Australian

Staking his leadership on environmental action, and outright suggestions of replacement leaders by high-profile members of his party, it looks like Turnbull has decided to go out swinging.

Respect for him doing it on this issue though. He seems to genuinely understand the dangers of climate change and the need for action.

Yes you're quite right the internal squabbles of the liberal party by no means come under the umbrella of "Australian politics". This certainly warranted a new thread.

He was always aware of the dangers of Climate Change. Remember, he was the environment Minister for a fair while. It's just that he had to pander to the party room for a while in order to secure his footing as leader, not that it helped.

Hopefully if he goes down it is not spectacularly and he is replaced promptly by a capable leader.

I can't see the Liberal party winning the upcoming election at all unless something drastic/unforeseen occurs which would alter the balance of power. Hopefully they can reduce Labor's lower house majority and gain control of the Senate, though. This Labor government has proven itself to be negligent concerning the true wishes of the Australian people (i.e. internet filter, alcopops tax, climate change).
