I've recently been obsessed with Japanese movies, from the likes of Hideo Nakata who did The Ring, The Grudge and Dark Water; and Akira Kurosawa the giant of foreign film making in the time of Speilberg, Coppola, and Lucas' early years. If you don't know, the American Movie "The Magnificent Seven" was a remake of Kurosawa's classic "The Seven Samurai". And the characters of "The Hidden Fortress" inspired George Lucas to create similar bickering characters R2D2 and C3PO in Star Wars. I was talking with a friend the other day and he said all Japanese movies are concerned with war. I think that is a generalisation. There are far more violent movies in Hollywood proportional to Japan. Does anyone else think so too?
