WHy not pop around to the Latham household? If he's not there, just wait crouched in the drive-way/chat with the kids/tag along for dinner. Oh, and they're very photogenic- make sure you bring a camera.

Hey guys, have a look at my blog for my views on Labor.

http://socialistparadise.blogspot.com

Basically, Gillard is Labor's only chance of victory. She is a strong and decisive woman who will make the ALP a clear opposition to the Liberals, not just Liberal Lite.

The problem with the ALP is partly the menacing Labor Right, and part the Australian media (Devine, skanky ho, Milne, Bolt, Henderson, Akerman, Oaks, Riley, Matt Price, John Laws, Alan Jones) which is so inherently right-wing that the ALP will always have an uphill battle.

I know how labor party can get a few more votes; with this slogan.

Labor Party - The Party for rich white people that discriminates against farmers, minorities, single mothers and people with physical and mental disabilities!!

Yay to that! Go for Labor Cause you only pay less tax! Yay!
While were at it lets become a republic! Yay for corruption!

(Disregard the fact that this will increase crime rate, among other things which will lead to corrupted police and other things. Such as payments to the judiciary system and the police force which will come from the tax payers money.)

You cannot tell me that the media is left wing or centrist. When you stack up all the right wing elements of our media, its clear that we are already at the USA style right-wing media model.

On radio we have Alan Jones, John Laws, Steve Prive, Stan Zemanek and the only Left wing one i can think of is Mike Carlton.

In print we have Devine, Bolt, Akerman, 'Skanky Ho' Janet, Henderson etc. While there are only one or two journalists who are as left wing as those above are right wing (Alan Ramsey).

In TV channel 9 are nearing fox territory and seven is plainly right of centre. Channel 10 are centre, same as SBS, and only the ABC is slightly to the left.

Am I missing something?

The media is meant to reflect society. I'd say most people are to the right, as far as individualism goes. What's specifically left about the ALP now anyway? On the things that matter, both parties are right.
Latham experimented in some left values and (to paraphrase a young-lib at Latham's visit) "it fucked up - You fucked up, Labor f-ucked up!" Besides, that public agenda was still catered to the individual (economic-rationalism for schools, value-adding for taz timber industry, back-handing welfare recipients). Traditional left policy (eg compassion to less-fortunate) wont be embraced today.

Why should we feel for the ALP if the media (allegedly) gives it a hard time? Can you blame it lately? If anything, they dont give it any time. Media-management is an important area for the party to deal with. Rudd's good at it; Howard's a master.
A big problem for Kim is that he treats every issue with the same degree of outrage/belching/indignation/huff'n'puff. That gets boring and not covered.

So I can assume you dislike labor and have no idea about politics?
Thats the thing you dont get... do you remember the last time the labor party was in government and did something positive? They did one good thing perhaps... the establishment of medicare.
Infact the governor general had to step in and take him Gough Whitlam out of power.
See they claim to be a socialist government, but fail at it. They encourage privatisation of government enterprises among other things.

From its formation until the 1950s Labor and its affiliated unions were the strongest defenders of the White Australia Policy, which banned all non-European migration to Australia. This policy was partly motivated by 19th-century theories about "racial purity" Nuff Said.

Now we'll go to keating;
Firstly he supported australia becoming a republic... (socialist? i think not)
Secondly he may have been a good public speaker and held strong policies; including integrating the idea of GST in australia. But it was also his doing that took huge funding out of education and health care. Regardless of what he promissed.

Overall; i don't think radical changes are needed in australia. The only issue is the slight corruption and the issues with healtcare. A change to labor could be dangerous... because you never know who they'll screw over. (If you're uncomfortable with australia its not the governments fault; australia has been doing well in trade due to howards international policies. The main problem is the droughts whihc have been affecting australian agriculture.)

Theres nothing ALP can do to better this problem; They'll only make it worse.
So to an extent YES i do not support the ALP.

(BTW, im not against socialism; just the way the ALP wants to do it).

I read The Australian everyday and am a staunch Labor supporter. It's a quality paper that criticises both the Government and the ALP equally. It's not like it trashes Labor regularly. It is currently hammering the Government over AWB and its editorial opinion of Labor has been mild, considering the damage that the party has exposed itself to in recent weeks.

As for Gillard, that bitch should get back into line. There's little hope for 2007 now, and she can be held accountable.

Withoutaface: Is that at the student level or the left in general? I don't doubt that many of the ALP left have socialist tendencies (I do myself from time to time), but that still doesn't change the fact that the ALP is theoretically a social democratic party.

As for Leetom, Gillard may have rocked the boat more than was necessary (the benefit of hindsight, of course), but she's hardly a bitch and the ALP stands to lose far more than it would gain by punishing the Member for Lalor for any future election results when it's the diseased party as a whole that will ultimately be at fault.

Edit: I give up. This and the below will do.
