I was wondering if anyone could help me with this question:
Who was the first woman to appear as counsel before the HC?
Thanks!

I remember Santow reading us one sex scene in Public Law... "He thrust his noble lance into her warm generosity" or something like that

three houses of vain piggies at blackbirds

something rarer than a perfect alignment of the planets happened tonight. i was invited by one of my UTS law friends to have dinner together at Blackbirds Cafe, at Cockle Bay. much to my surprise, i also bumped into my good friend, mr pigs_can_fly of USyd law, who were there celebrating his 19th with his USyd law friends (one of which did a 'brush off' gesture when i told him i was there with UTS law ppl - arrogant wanker >.<).

thus, you had, in the space of 50 square metres, UTS, UNSW, USyd law boys and girls. a rare event indeed.

the food was only mediocre this time... got baby octopi, but it wasn't 'grilled' as claimed.

dun think he was serious... but yeah, maybe as a joke, to rub it in...

but honestly, i don't think there's a difference in the calibre of students between the law schools. we're all overenthusiastic, overambitious, narcissistic, proud, law-loving undergrads.

i should've jokingly thrown down the gauntlet and said, "wanna settle this over a moot?" ;)

I was talking to my careers advisor about my uni applications, and as I found out my chosen degree can only be done at UWS...she told me people would give me crap but that I shouldn't listent to them, that its a good skool and offers the course I want. the I asked her in terms of employment would it become an obstacle...but she said as I want to go to the bar and work for the DPP it wouldn't be an issue... only if I wanted to work in a big firm[/QUOTE]

Hey some girls make excellent mooters...I took some guys to the cleaners with their multiple failures to comply with the rule in browne and dunn and objecting to everything my witnesses said to relevance...I bet they underestimated me...an advantage of being a miget

but for the fact that in university, a mock trial is known as a witness examination competition, not a moot. :p

there's no examining of witnesses in a uni moot

So there are two separate comps...one where u do the whole law thing and the one where u do cross etc???
Thats probably good for me...I got in trouble for being to focused on the law

I wonder if moots are fairish...mock trial I always had to prosecute cases that normally wouldn't make it past committal

in mooting one team generally has an advantage in the legal argument

but the moot is decided on how good your advocacy is, so it doesn't make much of a difference

if anything, i think it's an advantage to get the crap side

At UNSW, the competitions eligibility essentially goes like this:

Mooting competitions:
  • First year - negligence issues
  • Second year - contract and negligence issues
  • Third year - property, criminal, contract and torts issues
  • Fourth year - public law, property, criminal, contract and torts issues

Other competitions:
  • Client Counseling - 2nd year students or above
  • Witness Examination - 5th year students (and some 4th year students)
  • Negotiation - 2nd year students or above
