Lectures straight after one another (1 Viewer)

I feel rather pedantic but I was just wondering what people think about having lectures straight after one another after I was researching subjects and stuff.

I was planning on doing Marketing as my commerce major, and marketing and advertising as my communication and media studies major, but apparently I cant. So I was going to try and do core subjects from both until I decide.

My only problem is that BCM 101 goes from 4:30-5:30 and BCM 102 goes from 5:30-6:30.

So what do people think?

It's very easy to do back to back lectures, especially if they're only an hour long. First semester, I only had about two 1 hour breaks across my entire week (though obviously not full days, every day). Hence, heaps of double lectures. Similarly, Creative Arts students do 4 hour rehearsals.

Last semester I went 1:30 - 8:30, with no breaks. You'd be fine.

Yeah, you'll be fine. I am doing the same double degree combination you are doing (2010 will be my second year), and the majority of students are doing both BCM101 and BCM102. So you'll find that everyone will walk from one lecture to the other as a big group.

Back-to-back 1hr lectures are no problem, and as iKatie says, there will be a lot of people going from one to the other.

The only times I haven't liked putting subjects one after another has been two 2hr tutorials starting at 9:30 on a Monday morning. Not that you'll have to worry about that for a while

I believe my first semester Monday morning was two 2hr lectures back to back starting at 8:30. Majorly sucked.

Both semesters last year I had 7 hours straight on Thursday without a break.

First semester, my Friday was 8:30 to 5:30 no breaks. That was a long day.

First semester I had less breaks, even though in 2nd I did more subjects. I always thought that seemed weird how it worked out. Though I was probably at uni longer 2nd, just more breaks.

2 hour lectures are great. Honestly I rather have 2 hour lectures than have an hour in between them. I find I will do nothing productive in that one hour break. That being said, I wouldn't do 4 hour straight lectures though, I'm just too weak. Good luck hun!

You'll pick it up. It's not hard to get used to.

This is probably why they timetable the units like this. Last semester I had two politics units with back to back lectures, and honestly half of the first lecture would be in the second.

This is actually potentially a coincidence, since I know many course coordinators have a really difficult time trying to get subjects with a timetable they think will suit.

For example, last semester, three subjects were scheduled for the same time which had probably at least 5 people enrolled in all three (for third year that's a decent number), as they were all politics/philosophy/sociology subjects (all inherently political). As it ended up, we had to pick two of the three subjects and swap notes/lecture recordings and pick an entirely different third subject. It can be a pain.

I made a mock timetable for myself based on the draft subject times available on the website. 8 hours of lectures and only a one hour break in the middle...ouch. I have lots of chunks of big 6 hour ones with no breaks either. Yucky.

Wow how many contact hours does Creative Arts have? That's tons for an arts course.

Creative Arts Performance has:
12 hours rehearsal
2 hours Voice
2 hours Movement
1 hour singing
2 hours specialist production/acting
3 hours dramaturgy
1 hour PASS (optional, though most do it)

That's 23 hours, not including your elective. The elective (or subject for your double) varies, but is usually somewhere between 3 - 6 hours (depending on what you do, and how many).

So it comes to 26 - 29 contact hours. That of course, does not include time you spend between classes.

As the breakdown I've given shows, most of your subjects aren't 'lectures' per say. The only real lecture you do is for Dramaturgy. Chances are there is no way to avoid those big blocks of subjects. However, the timetable given for Creative Arts is very awkward to use, as it lists both Performance and Production subjects. You should get an actual timetable given to you. I forget when though...
