Bob Geldof
* Coldplay
* Cure, The
* Dido
* Elton John, Sir
* Joss Stone
Keane
* Killers, The
Madonna
Mariah Carey
Ms. Dynamite
* Muse
* Paul McCartney, Sir
* Pink Floyd
* Razorlight
* REM
Robbie Williams
* Scissor Sisters
Snoop Dogg
* Snow Patrol
* Stereophonics
Sting
Travis
* U2
* UB40
* Velvet Revolver

let me say that it is great that all these artists are giving up sometime to help raise money and publicity for such a great cause.

I hate to add a negative comment to such a great event, but sometimes i wonder if all these huge coperations, bands, and people with millions of dollars in assests are really just doing as little as reasonably possible to prevent poverty. I mean its easy for a coperation or band to increase sales of a product when they say a certain percentage of profits go to charity. But if sales are increased they really dont lose any money themselves, and its just common people giving money to the poorest people. Wouldnt it be fairer if the richest people just gave some of their own money?

What do you mean? The concerts are free, they're not making any money. Not that I know of...

The only thing that many have against Live 8 is that they accuse Bob Geldof of trying to revive the careers of old bands (e.g. I hear the Who will be playing at Hyde Park too).

entry isnt total free, you have to enter competitions. i believe its a few pounds per phone call, and with the number of people calling, and calling more then once, a shit load will end up being donated.

and then there is everything that will be sold at the gig, which you would expect profits to go to charity, eg merch and food.

i was also talking generally about this kinda thing. example that single that was released at christmas. instead of bono etc giving a few million, which im sure he coudl afford, they make the masses, many of whom would already be struggling financially buy the cd, with donations going to poverty.

furthermore my point was companies that do this 5cents goes to blah blah blah shit are just decieving the public. im sure more (or just as much) money could be made from the extra sales generated from this schemes then the companies themselves donate. ineffect meaning the public donates the money and the companies take the credit. my point is if a company or well off person wants to do something to end poverty why not just give the money themselves.

it was one of those events where some of the artists played so terribly (elton john and pete doherty? what the fuck was that junkie doing there with sir elton?) but you didnt care because it made you feel all fuzzy inside that they were doing it for a good cause

I missed both Pink Floyd and Velvet Revolver. I doubt Channel Nine will show all of their stuff.
