To stoop to your level: most of the DVDs I own are those that you'd only ever watch on SBS. A lot the films I consider to be the very finest ever created are foreign and/or arthouse films that I'd even be surprised to see aired on SBS.

Can you shut up now?

nah go mikeee. Just coz a few of you cunts say it's great and the critics do doesn't mean we need to bend over and agree with you. It's his opinion. I also think it's a piece of shit. But I mean if you like it good for you. I'm not asking you to explain why you like it, but don't give shit to people who don't agree with you. Scarlect Johansson is way better in Match Point and Bill Murray is better in many more films.

I watch plenty of movies on SBS (and for the record, I adored Lost in Translation). That a movie is subtitled does not automatically make it quality arthouse cinema. Believe it or not, SBS airs crap films as well - all nations are capable of producing them.

Lol... I loved that guy's comment, it was the biggest 'I'm better than you because my art is not mainstream'

Lost in Translation is far from mainstream fare. I'm pretty sure it's an indie film and I wouldn't be surprised if SBS picked up the rights to it.

Yea I read this last night and got a bit of a chuckle. I enjoy hollywood crap alot more than alot of the more exotic films (no not porn... everyone loves porn). I do watch them occasionally, but I still think you often get a better job straight out of hollywood.

hahahaha
my favourite aspect of flodders is the fantasy nude scene, which get better with each movie :p

the way 'sbs movie' is thrown around this thread you'd think it's type of movie unto itself

Haven't gone through this thread for a while and I have to say.. I am surprised and very happy to see all the LiT love going on here. The last time I posted it seemed as if most people here totally despised it.

Gotta love the weatherwoman returns :D

I think every person who loves Lost in Translation knows all about the opinions of its critics, so I doubt if one more hater really makes a difference to anyone. mikeee however isn't so much a critic so much as an insecure tryhard with very limited capacities to understand and to articulate any constructive criticism. That's probably why he has to resort to immature and frankly, foolish attempts to undermine the (for the lack of a better word) film watching 'authority' of nwatts.

They've showed a few American indie films lately. Donnie Darko, Virgin Suicides... another I can't recall the name of.

Firstly, Writing for an online film/DVD reviewing publication for over 12 months does not make automatically make nwatts a "film watching authority"!

Secondly,
Anyone who doesnt like this movie is treated as intellectually inferior:
icecreamdisco said:
those who did not like this film did not understand it, and would therefore be better off with something on their intellectual level, such as bad boys 2, fight club, armageddon or donnie darko.
and gets replies such as

You're not supporting your opinion. Considering this is a thread full of people who love this film, as well as thread full of this forum's authorities on film, you're seen as an absolute moron for statements such as "have you seen any movies on sbs?" and "I understood it and it is still shit!".

mikeee, you can't simply say it was 'boring' and 'unmeaningful', you have to explain how it was boring - and how you would rectify this problem.

I didn't say he was. I said you were trying to undermine his authority in watching film using an extremely flimsy assumption. This is also the reason why you're getting treated as 'intellectually inferior' as you like to put it. Having an opinion is fine, but be prepared to back it up with something slightly less clueless than: 'you don't watch sbs movies'.

I personally liked it. Sometimes the feeling a film produces in the viewer can be more important than any plot or meaningful structure. I mean, if you think about it nothing much happens. But the film is stirring, and in particular placing it in Japan gave it a real absurd feel that I found both amusing and provocative.
