Having limited knowledge on a subject and claiming the deeper meaning/facts behind things are irrelevant is just plain ignorant. Not that I'm claiming to know what some of the above posters were talking about, however.

And, BadMeetsEvil, I don't know if it's just because you're some kind of drop out, but you've offered zero useful feedback, whether it be a for or against argument the discussion being held in this thread. At least provide some info or get out. At least khorne is explaining why he chose what he did.

Unable to even reach 5char. Fail.

How about everyone wait for the ATARs to come out, and let them speak for themselves.

[Going to add some info here once I obtain it]
ummm maybe cos i was agreeing with khorne. that's why i had nothing to say cos khorne got it right.
and dude this is a fcking forum. everyone can write shit. think you're all king shit now behind your keyboard
why am I even arguing with you through this? i'm being hypocritical
I got better shit to do than arguing with some cunt who thinks he's king shit just because he goes to baulko.
deuces!

LOL. I can guarantee you the last statement you said is far from the truth. No egotism here. So no, I don't think I'm all 'king shit.' Saying shit like 'good game' on an academic discussion forum isn't exactly agreeing, it's being spiteful. And you bolded the part that's wrong from khorne's post. Sheesh. Give some feedback, going around cussing all over the place is just plain juvenile.

I honestly don't think we can know for sure about the answer to 14, I'm still uncertain between A and D. A if we assume the EMF across X and Y isn't negligible, or if you attached a voltmeter. D if you go with the fact that eddy currents produce negligible EMF. D=. Btw khorne, I do believe what you said regarding the voltmeter only measuring in parallel can only be applied to an initially closed circuit.

If a piece of wire isn't closed in the first place, attaching a voltmeter would result in that being the easiest path for the current to take. Current wouldn't flow through air if there's wire for it to flow through. So in your case, the voltmeter being parallel to an existing circuit when connected to an open ring wouldn't make sense at all. It's like looking at a closed circuit and expecting current to randomly jump between two points in the closed circuit outside the existing closed circuit.

Use your brain before you start going around labeling people retards, please.

I think this thread should be let to die now anyways, there's already an MC discussion thread. My apologies for feeding it.

That is all.

Once again you didn't read my post carefully, by no means I am suggesting there is a collapse of wave function here, I am merely alluding to the significance of "measure". The act of measuring changes everything.

And, putting a voltmeter DOES complete the circuit, full stop.

Why would you even bring this up? Yes, nature is ruled by quantum mechanics, but quantum mechanics is not merely the 'collapsing of a wave function', the quantum world is not apparent in the everyday macroscopic world. Your statement is invalid.

However, I do agree with the second part of your statement, putting a voltmeter to "Measure" the induced EMF would create a closed circuit -- however, the voltmeter would still measure the same potential difference which exists between the two points regardless of whether it is there or not. Basically, if you connect a voltmeter across an open circuit and the circuit has no other resistance in it, it will read the total EMF of the circuit

I am not sure why you quoted my quantum statement Again. Please read it, I used it to bring up the issue of MEASURE, which is the centre of the matter. I will say it again, this is not a quantum event, I made very clear in the first post.

In case people are still wondering, "collapse of wave function" is a perime example where the act of measuring changes the dynamics of the system.

This is not the first time HSC physics exam questions are flawed.

If you can't understand JamieP's posts, you can't call yourself "physicist". Didn't you say you are a physics teacher? I suggest you read his posts again, he is making perfect sense! Measuring DOES change the dynamics, even in a nonquantum world! By the way, state rankers don't need to be coached, I happen to know Baulko and James Ruse well, the top rankers of both schools are way better than the teachers - sorry to blow the whistle, but it's the sad truth - it's a sad state of the physics departments of most schools.

And to khorne, don't call people idiots if you don't even understand the subject.
