UTS only offers main streamed engineering courses as in courses that are at the top of the ladder these being civil, electrical, mechanical and ICT engineering

example petro is a branch off chemical engineering, aeronautical is a branch off mechanical ,mining is a branch off civil engineering.

At some unis you can obtain a graduate diploma for a duration of 6 to 12 months and specialise into a particular branch.completing a mechanical or civil degree you can obtain a graduate diploma in mining(and many giant companies such a s bhp will take you in as a mining engineer which puts you on the safe side incase the mining boom doesnt last as long as expected)

It costs more to train a mining engineer than a commerce grad. Most of the "technology" universities are busy cashing in on boutique courses and the international student scam.

Ye nice money for mining and petroleum but its very risky job + bad locations. And another thing normal mining labourers can get up t0 $2000 a week (i acutally know someone who does), so its nothing wow sorry to say.
