Just look at the Table A3's for past UAC scaling reports.

obviously, MX2 is quite different from MX1 in terms of both course content and the difficulty of exam questions

one might argue that you may end up with a higher scaled mark(thus ATAR as well) in the end
even though you might not be as confident in your understanding of the subject
And I do agree with this to a certain extent

As riproot said, the scaling of maths extensions has been falling slightly in the past few years - although they are still the highest scaling subjects (plus things change from year to year). The difficulty of something is pretty subjective - it depends on whether you are good at maths and your natural intelligence. Some people find MX2 easy, others find it a challenge and for some its just way out of their league.

If you understand what you're doing (i.e. not blindly applying formulas) and do the homework it's quite easy to do well in. Plus, the scaling's insane.

It won't add much to your atar after a mark of 93 though.

it really does depend on whether your good at maths, if your alrightish then yes you will find it difficult but if your on top of your game then you'll be fine. However the jump from 3U to 4U is much much larger then the jump from 2U to 3U

fair enough :)
what raw mark would get a band 6 this year?(apprx...)
~63% usually. It depends on the difficulty of the paper.

Remember scaling is re-calculated each year so... you know.
He was talking about aligning, which is based on the difficulty of the paper and fitting into the BOS band descriptors.

There are 4 99.95 units for your ATAR mate.
Well, technically those marks scale better than a 99.95 equivalent. ~47/50 scaled mark is 99.95, so any higher is technically more.

ahhk, and isnt it abit inaccurate when ppl say ohh u only need 63% for a band 6... coz how bout if they got bad in internals....
its an average of both isnt it.

Yes, it's terribly inaccurate and misleading to say 63% = Band 6. 63% might equal 90 exam mark, but not necessarily a Band 6. Internals are rather important.

It's not inaccurate. That is the mark to get a band 6 in the exam.

If you are ranked 1st in MX2 at any school in the state and you get ~63% in a typical 4U HSC exam at the end of the year then you will get a band 6 (probs 90).

But if the exam is easier than usual you might get less.

"Band" infers your final HSC mark, not an exam mark. Getting 90+ exam mark doesn't guarantee you a Band 6 (unless you are ranked 1 and you achieve that 90+).
