I was wondering if anyone could help out with HSC economics (particularly sections 3 and 4, the essays). People always tell me that econ essays are predictable but I literally don't know what plans to write (especially for topics 1 and 2), literally the only essays I can write are for topic 4.

Anyone have any ideas on what parts of topics 1 and 2 to write essay plans for and what general evidence to remember?? I'm actually so cooked. The only topic 2 essays that I would know how to write if I got them in the HSC are BOP/CAD, exchange rates, effect of globalisation Aus trade/financial flows/econ performance.

Also, would anyone recommend memorising essay plans (eg. causes and effects) for econ issues in topic 3? I know they recently did a Q on environmental sustainability last yr and they did inflation in 22 but usually they don't ask issues alone and integrate them with topic 4 through econ objectives. Is it still worth it to create essay plans for each issue?

Tysm, sorry for all of the waffle! :)

I think I found it, ty! In your comment (I'm pre sure the one you're referring to), you said that protection is one of the easiest essays, do you just include the protectionist policies from Aus and other econ (eg. barriers to agricultural markets) and then their impact on Aus + the global econ? Sorry if this is stupid, I just think that I'm ass at any topic other than 4. Thanks

for protection I say its easy cause u dont really have to adapt to question too much since all the questions are practically the same:

Heres the structure I have currently (this is a large essay plan consisting of both the topics):

Intro, then theory + diagram + example on each of the different domestic protectionist policies AKA topic 1 stuff AKA what a tariff is, what a quota is, show their diagrams (explain them) and have relevant examples. With examples, for this essay, I wouldn't go too far back since theres a lot to look at in recent times, esp US china trade war and aus china trade war.

I also have a para separately on US China trade war and its subsequent impacts on Aus eco, I would say my analysis for this is a bit too extensive so just inputing and condensing this into one of the theory paras i mentioned above is better, up to u tho, my teacher said to keep it as a para (but its optional).

then i have two paras on aus policies. one is the korea agreement. one is china agreement (CHAFTA). both of them are just like, outline what the policy is, advantages of policy for either country, negative events or consequences of policies, plus any further long term impacts on aus economy. for the pros and cons in each of the paras, try to focus more on aus but if there are any profound/prominent examples for the other country, then u can include those. here my CHAFTA para is considerably longer as I have outlined extensively the AUS china trade war, and its subsequent impacts on aus eco, and the free trade agreement itself.

again, this plan is very extensive and long, so i would never input this all into an exam. It would depend on the question, and then I would just see which parts are more important than others and go from there.

Do you think its necessary to mention both the US-China and Aus-China trade wars? My essay is already super long, Aus is discontinuing its WTO complaint and China removed its wine tariffs.

my analysis on aus china trade war is extensive since in the last few years, its probably been the most prominent thing in terms of the protection essay. the us china trade wasnt as significant obviously but making small references can be beneficial in gaining appreciation from markers.
