Did anyone hear that the government is reviewing on the DFEE system in getting into uni. Why are they doing this and does it mean there will not be DFEE this year?

well Julia Gillard was interviewed on dateline (or lateine or stateline) and she's still talking about it.

Says it will be implemented in june or july or something.

i still dont know whether dfee is a good thing or bad thing yet. i might go read the other thread soon. but to save the hassel. good or bad?

getting rid of dfee places will lower the csp cutoff anyway.
...unless they give the spots to internationals.


I'm quite happy. I wouldn't of gone dfee anyway.

lower cut offs are only temporary if the uni can't fund the places.

what's funding got to do with it?
dfee places no longer exist so there are more csp places. so increased supply means lower cutoff.

For CSP places the uni's pretty much only get given the cost price of your course, they uni makes up for the short fall by having so many DFEE and international DFEE spots, Rudds plan is to scrap DFEE and pay the uni for the lost DFEE places.

But it isn't less funding because the govt will replace the revenue lost on abolishing dfee places.

But by the government doing that it is depriving another problem in society the funding that it needs. Also if the budget does need to be tightened, how long do you think it will be until they stop funding DFEE places?

I can't remember how much the budget has put into education but it's a lot. I'm assuming a lot of that will go to replacing dfee.

exactly, how long do you think the government can keep up with those payments? of course they may manage short term but in the long term it is unlikely and the money is better of spent for another issue.

yeah, you may be right. labor is pretty big on education though, If having dfee places abolished stays high on their priorities then it's they can probably keep up with the subsidies.
