When calculating the velocity of a moon or satellite orbiting around a planet, which equation should i use, or can i use both if enough information are given? Thanks

1. v=2πr/T
2. v=sqrtGM/r

You will most likely be using the 2nd equation however they do ask the first one but it will be quite obvious since they will provide you with period.

Questions with the 2nd equation are usually followed with a question that elaborate on the fact that the velocity is independent of the mass of the satellite.

You should be able to use either. If the numbers given are accurate, the value will come out to be exactly the same. Just make sure for both equations, you show where they came from
