Hi, I was just wondering what's the point of getting a 99.8+ atar as opposed to a 99.5 atar, apart from the extra honour that you get.

Are there any other benefits? Higher scholarship? I'm thinking of doing commerce at uni, prob not med.

Right now, i think i'm on track for a 99.5+ atar, but i'm lacking some motivation to put in the extra hour or two of study every night to get myself up even further.

there's just way too much grinding for me to feel bothered atm :/

There are some scholarships which might distinguish between the two (maybe co-op, although I think that is 99.9 from memory). Otherwise there is always the pride factor.

- scholarships (scientia/co-op etc) - BIG factor.. up to $10,000/year
- higher ATAR = greater opportunities for a career as a tutor (at first impression)
- prestige/pride
- any course you want.

Pretty much all of this, if you get 99.95, you can get $10000pa from a USYD scholarship which is pretty much your tuition fees. I would imagine that not paying for university would ease much of the burden.

It gets the girls, like..regardless of who you are "omg see that guy over there, he got 99.95! husband/10"

What really happens:
Parents to their daughter: See that guy over there, I don't care what you think, you're marrying him because he got 99.95

If you're the dux with 99.8 it'd be cool and you can make a kickass speech taking a crap on the school and teachers. (What I plan to do)

99.5 won't get you into USyd or UNSW law. So that's a difference between 99.8 and 99.5. Same with that in relation to scholarships.

Also, USyd med only takes 99.95. In relation to UNSW Med - it's a sliding scale, so the lower your UMAT, the higher your ATAR needs to be.

Yes it will. Inflated cutoffs, I know someone who got .25 below the cutoff and got into UNSW Law; no AAA or whatever.

Interesting...I know of no other school, except Sydney High, which had 4 .95ers last year.

I'm pretty sure you're not dumb, probably some low key genius.
