Congrats for showing people who think having a baby in your teens is not the end of the world. I'm not in the same position..but I think you would do great as long as you keep up your motivation. Good luck!

i would think to do medicine would be too much on top of being a mother

do u really want to be a doctor? or do u want to be a good mother

im not saying dont go to uni, but how will you support yourself and ur child...seems all a bit too much even if you may have financial support cause imo its more important being a mother and doing medicine would most likely make it harder on you

why not do something else at uni?

my dad is a doc and he was doin his final exams n stuff when i was lil, i still remeber how busy he was then n how he was always in the study with these huge books everywhere.
i was prob bout 3 and tho i wouldnt say my dad was never home, i no it is NOT the job u should b going for whilst being preggas. sure, its one that makes lots of money, but not 4 about another 17 yrs. its not a glamourous lifestyle from day one and after u finish uni n everythin, ur still not completely qualified, the amount of stress on it is huge, and u wont hav heaps of time 4 ur baby.
good on u 4 wanting to stick thru n do the HSC this yr, but honestly, my advice is defer the doc plans a while. somethin pretty life changing is gonna happen 4 u in bout 8 months with a kiddo, u dont wanna get 2 ahead of urself.

My stepmum was pregnant at 17 and did her medical degree with a child... however, the course was nowhere near as rigorous back then and she said she would have 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th thoughts about doing it again. It's very difficult and can be depressing. However, its turned out to be worth it for her, as she's now a wealthy specialist and still works hard.

If you're going to be having a baby so close to exams remember that it could screw you over and you might not do as well making it exceptionally hard to get into medicine.

And most medicine degrees are 30-something hours a week face-to-face not to mention all the extra work, so who is going to look after your baby? If your parents/family/boy are great then thats brill, but will you want to miss out on that much?

But yeah, it can be done... my stepmum and my older stepsister are proof of that.

I'm not in the same position; but I know someone the same age and she had a baby late last year!

She is going to go back and do her HSC next year!

In my opinion I think you two girls are really strong, and wish you and your baby the best of luck for the future!

Congrats kiddo, I had 2 friends @ skool last year 1 of them dropped out when she found out. The other completed her HSC and had plenty of support from my skool, family and friends and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy at the end of last year. So if thats anything to go by you can get through the HSC pregnant.
There are special provisions through the Board Of Studies for pregnant year 12 students so it would be worth seeing some one at school or getting into contact with the board of studies to find out about those provisions
Good luck

Good luck to you. I think you've made the best decision by continuing the HSC. Have you considered pathways? It might help you out if you find you're stuck later on.

You have sex, you know there are certain risks involved, but you do it anyway and should be accountable for your own actions. IMO she doesn't deserve EAS, no matter what the BOS may rule.

yeah patways is also a great idea I did it for year 12 becuasue of my physical disability and although you have to stay at school for longer it will help you get the best marks you can in the HSC

I'd say good on you for sticking with it. There was a girl at school who pulled a pregnant ordeal and got special priveledges, her own room, eating breaks. After the exams it all went away.

Err. Yes she would know the risks like everybody else, but accidents DO happen.
There is no 100% effective contraception device, besides not having sex at all. What do you expect? Everyone to not have sex whilist in year 12?
I don't expect everyone to abstain, I just expect them to acknowledge the risks involved and take responsibility for them. If they are not willing to do this they shouldn't be having sex.

EDIT: If it's not a bad thing then why would someone deserve special consideration for it?

Yes i knew the risk that why i started the pill before i started having sex but hey im still pregnant. I think i am being accountable for my actions by having this baby and not taking the easy way out and having an abortion.

My year advisor says i will get special provisions my own room, toilet breaks and extra times but im not sure if i want them. I quite like the atmosphere in the exam hall with everyone around.

I know medicine will be hard and im only applying to 2 uni's for MBBS. If i dont get in from hs im not going to do it or maybe in 10 yrs time. Im also applying for alot of forensic degrees so if i dont get into medicine i want to go to newcastle so ill be close to home. I would like to defer for a year but im not sure if i can in medicine my careers advisor is still looking into it.

I plan to work consistently throughout the year so i stay top of assessments and have summaries and study notes up-to-date and organised. Because i know my exam marks may be slightly lower as i wont have much time to study.

I have already had loads of people tell me i wont be able to do it, that just makes me more determined.

And no pathways wouldnt help i would have no one to look after the baby, well no one i really want anyway.

I'm sure she will have help taking care of the baby!!!

A lot of children got taken care of by their grandparents, etc... if their parents were busy. That doesn't mean that they had bad parents!!!!!

Just because she is having a baby doesn't mean she can't do the things she wants to do!

yeah sweet_chick i second what you said about not having an abortion.
good on you for going for finishing the hsc.
you might have to be flexible with the medicine thing though. cos you don't want to miss the first 7 years of your kid's life

If pathways wouldnt help because you'd have no one to look after the baby how is uni doing such a time-consuming degree like medicine going to work?
