I'm interested in Psychology, and feel it would be something I would love to study and hopefully eventually become a Psychologist. The problem is that I also am wondering about learning a trade, as I like working with electrics and could make some decent money in it.

The main point of this post is, with bost interests that I have (slightly more interested in Psychology), what sort of salary could I expect to earn as a Psychologist? Is it financially rewarding? It is not the only thing I'm interested in when I choose, but it does play a big part.

Well the govt have just introduced a system where they now subsidise psychologist appt through medicare. Therefore, this will increase thenumber of people that will see psych as it becomes more affordable. This will increase demand, therefore, technically increasing the salary. It may also be more interesting in such that everyday is different, so it keeps you going. Also more reqarding.

But in the end it's up to you.

I'm studying Psycholohy. I want to bash my head against the wall everytime I see it on my timetable. I abhor it. I hate it so much it gives me evergy to wake up in the morning to hate it-- there aren't enough hours in the day for me to hate it. I hate it so much that it motivates me to study harder so I can transfer far away from it.

Uhhh the worrying part is that I'm only partly kidding.

Are you sure you're not thinking of psychiatry? I didn't know there was a difference until I looked it up-- they're two very different fields. One of them pays better (I only mention this because it seems to be a factor influencing your decision-- but then again, what isn't influenced by money?) and is infinitely more rewarding. Oh, and it doesn't make you want to bash your head against hard surfaced which is always a bonus.

But uhh you know, if being a librarian and/or school counsellor (after spending five years or so years doing honours/masters whatnot) is your thing, by all means go for it.

My Wednesday lecturer put up a list of vocations available to B Psychs and I cracked up.

hahaha yea doesn't really make much sense? I was in a economics mood when I wrote that where buy one think affects another and so on lol! But i was explained it like that when I went for an interview at a uni and she was trying to convince me to study psychology! I am anyway, just not there

You know that clinical psychology is not the only option open to you? You could always study further and specialise in something, go into education, hospital, psychiatry, research, academia (writing books or lecturing). And good point about the Medicare. You could even become a consultant of some sort for a firm if such a position exists (which I'm sure does).
