Well, it's only march. If u go out now then by the time the HSC comes around, u'll probably be over each other/broken up or in a stable enough relationship so that she realises the importance of ur HSC and gives u the space u need.

Glad for you! And everything depends on you! I had a boyfriend when I was in hsc and our relationships didn't interfere my hsc at all. :)

It just depends on yourself mate. I mean the HSC is the real deal, you just gotta know how to balance everything. Don't get into anything big that you wont be able to control or balance properly coz if you get involved into something and you lose your way, big chance your gonna jeopardise everything you've worked hard for.

Re: do u think a relationship will interfere with you hsc?

if you actually really love someone, you wont break up with them for the hsc. i had a mate of mine who used that excuse on her then boyfriend and she started dating a different guy two months later.

all i can say is who gives a shit coz the hsc aint the end of the world and you'll do better than you expect anyway. i know i did and i went out and partied and got drunk and had a boyfriend during the most hectic hsc time and i still got over 90 and into the course i wanted.

Re: do u think a relationship will interfere with you hsc?

Me and my boyfriend did the HSC together... it actually worked out well cos we both sorted out our priorities, and we knew that we both needed space during exams and assessments, etc. We cheered each other on, we consoled one another, we vented and had the other one bringing us back to sanity. It tested us both, but we got through it unscathed, and we're still together today. However, a word of warning to others... it's TOUGH, and you both come out of it either stronger or with your relationship totally broken in.

Hey mate, I know what you're going through. I didnt have a gf before and even now but all the chances that I had to get one which failed miserably left me in the same predicament. It will take time to get over it but you will eventually; just think that now you're free once again, you can do whatever you want and no one will give a massive care. Plus hey its a chance for you to asses yourself what are your priorities this year and possibly meet a new one who will understand you and work with you to achieve the balance.

Re: do u think a relationship will interfere with you hsc?

- it's the HSC, therefore it's not a bit deal. if you get a crap UAI, you'll find a way around it.

- i had a boyfriend from mid yr11, through HSC and up to now (nearly 5 years, oh my god i am so old) and i do think it was detrimental to my UAI.
why? because it gave me a poor excuse to avoid all study.
would this have happened anyway? yes. i chose bad subjects and love to procrastinate (eg. why am i here typing shit when i should be working on 3 uni assignments?)

- just enjoy yourself and your time with the girl. it's one year in your life.

Re: do u think a relationship will interfere with you hsc?

you have to analyse yourself - whether you're easily distracted, your organisation skills etc

i had a boyfriend that whole year... but when i think about it now in perspective, if I could trade boyfriend for a higher uai, there's no way. In persective - well, my boyfriend lasted another 2.5 years so...

and the uai did jack all for me except give me a scholarship to my uni.

Re: do u think a relationship will interfere with you hsc?

yeah, going with dreamerish's comment there, i heard from a friend that apparently there was some sorta study into people that had a steady relationship during the hsc vs. those who didnt, and those who had a long term bf/gf actually did better than the singles. can anyone back that up?

Also, gracie007, didn't Dreamerish already back up your study by giving you that example about the people she knew?

Personally, I think that even though my bf distracted me, I distracted myself more... He made me work and helped me study and I don't think I could have done as well let alone survived it without his encouragement and support and all that.

I think it really depends if you truly are happy, and if you are able to allow some time for studying

I will take the corny stance and say the following:

You never know when the person you're with might be the one. You might be able to repeat year 12 and the HSC, but you'll never be able to repeat the relationship.

True but there would probably be significant less study because you would always be on the phone or over at her house.
