Hey emytaylor, you pay tax based on how much income you receive, true fact.

How much of the money you give to any charity actually ends up going towards good works?
Depends on the charity. I know DoW takes 11% of the purchase price of each merchandise item for administrative costs.

What ever makes religious organizations so special?

They make money from preaching horseshit.

Religion is a fraudulent franchise.

All other franchises are taxed, religious organisations should be no exception to the rule.
Agreed. Also agreeing with zstar, and apprecating what Riet said so much right now.

Agreed. Any person or institute in Australia with an income should be subject to tax.
However, the tax for religious institutions should only apply to profit, which would allow not-for-profit institutions to continue to function as normal. Also, all money given in charity and alms (these being defined by the government, not the religious institution) should be exempt.
