SBS is in the doldrums. How can it be saved? List some of the programmes you would like to see on the SBS that you think would make it more relevant to Australian society. It doesn't have to be *popular*, so it can be high-brow material.

I for one think that the SBS needs to hire translators to caption all of their foreign news programmes in English. It would be fascinating to watch Russian or Indonesian news, I think.

Also, a one hour programme 'headlines from Abroad', going through the major news of Asia and the Middle East as seen through their news media.

SBS should go back to just news, anime and porn.
Actually they should have more channels, keep the foreign news channel, then add a channel that has sport and world news australia, then another channel with mythbusters, south park, iron chef, the various anime shows and then porn from 10pm to 2 am.
Oh and those freakin awesome movies with flying chinese people fighting each other.

I dont like Newstopia on it. Great program but feels dirty watching it there. And it's sent Micallef mad.
Peter Sellers mad

A friend and I were rather traumatised when we were like 15 at this weird German movie on SBS that involved a girl having her first orgasm on a bike in public, her friends trying to replicate the process and a guy getting stuck and cutting off circulation with a cock ring. Yeah, lol. We were both shocked and in hysterics.

I'd like more investigative journalism style documentaries, QA panel discussion shows etc.

Much more boring than the softcore porn requests...

whose line is it anyway? receives very little free-to-air coverage in Aus. Bring some fringe/neglected comedy to SBS, much like they did with South Park. :)

No.

Comedy is for the uncultured masses.

South Park is not funny.

Saturday Night Live / The Daily Show / Colbert are pretty huge programs that no one in Australia's picked up (Idk maybe they have?) It really doesn't fit the SBS vibe but *shrug* it'd make me more likely to watch it. Other than that they should replay epic BBC documentaries such as Cosmos.

edit: As for foreign language programs, it'd be nice for them to provide subtitles or they could just spend some time running the english Al Jazeera

If I was in charge of revitalising SBS, I would implement the following changes:

- Cut the ethnic crap, if you watch the commercial channels for a while you'll soon learn that everyone in Australia is white, from an Anglo Saxon background and speaks English with an Aussie accent; SBS should change its programming and personnel to reflect this. (Les Murray and Lee Lin Chin have to go)

- More reality shows involving anglo d grade celebs. Washed out TV presenters, sportspeople, political failures or models are figures that the average aussie can relate to. Whether we're watching them dance, ice skate or sing, it's sure to be a hit. Best partnered with gratuitous overhyping on every commercial break.

- More cross promotion. If you watch SBS news, you'll see that not one story is ever about a new program on SBS, instead they focus on global events that most aussies can't understand, and don't care about anyway. A wasted opportunity.

- A nightly tabloid journalism style program is a must. At the moment, concerned mothers can't learn anything about petrol prices, the latest fashion or losing weight from SBS. Not acceptable.

- No more sex in the movies. Don't they think of the children? SBS needs more quality family shows that cater to a family audience.

- All in English. It's our official national language, and anything else is just unaustralian

- Piss off the bloody soccer. There are plenty of second grade AFL or rugby league comps in all states that haven't been picked up by the commercial stations. Aussies can relate to that, not poofters in Europe.

- Hire Bert Newton.

Have I missed anything?
