is it possible to be able to do really well in them through self study?

Well I had a good teacher in year 11 however he left the school and we got a bad teacher for year 12.
I got a low band 6 for chem which I am extremely happy about!

Not tested directly, but the content learnt in year 12 will assume prerequisite knowledge from year 11.

I had a really bad teacher in physics and self taught it myself. It is certainly do-able, just need hard work and dedication. I think i ended up with an 87-88 so its possible.

Sorry man i kinda know how it feels. Your life depending on someone with minimal experience. all you can do is self study.
Here is a tip of the textbooks you can self study from:
Physics: either Jacaranda Physics ( best) or In2 Phyics
Chemistry: Either Conquering Chemistry (best) or CHemistry context

Good luck
