Scoring 80+ ATAR

Hi guys,
I just want to know what marks I will need to get for each of my subjects to score a mark of 80+ ATAR.

I currently study:
General Mathematics
Standard English
Business Studies
Economics
Legal Studies
Modern History

What marks do I need to score in each to get 80+ atar ?

School hsc ranking in 2008: 163

Thanks

Not trying to sound like a dushe, but you don't put % at the end of an ATAR.

Anywho, It's impossible to tell you what to aim for without the rank of your school. Do you know the rank of your school?

what's wrong with that? The ATAR is a reflection of your percentile within the cohort...
Use SAM if you want to know the hsc marks you need. It's more difficult to provide internal marks you'll need though, or the ranks you'll need...Depends on the school

Yeah, but your grade's cohort is not a reflection of the state's cohort. How to explain...

If you go to a school ranked in the 400s, you'd have to be hitting 95+ to get a UAI of 85+, where as if you got to James Ruse, you'll be fine in the low 80s. Get it?

HSC Marks are all aligned so they are by no means an indication of marks you should be getting in school. Ranks > Marks. You would need ranks somewhere close to the top. Top 20 percentile perhaps?

And also ATAR is rank, not percent

All the best.

hold on a second.

i always thought, when they calculated UAI/ATAR they didnt consider the ranking of the school

although, your ranking in school is considered

That is correct, but usually a school's rank remains in the same region from year to year so you can estimate how well you'd have to go in the school to get a certain mark in the state.

Actually, its an Index. If it was a rank, the top would get 1, and the bottom would get 60 thouand-ish.

I have no idea what index is but atar stands for australian tertiary admission rank..

actually..isnt atar based on rank?
and the top x percentile get a 99.95
the next x percentile get a given a rank -0.05 of the above?
and so on
like 20 or so would get 100 in the UAI (oh, look at that, I stands for Index)
and the next 40 or so would get 99.95

okay im going to stop there cos i have no idea w hat im talking about

ATAR/UAI is a rank based index. It is your rank reported on a scale of 00.00 (though those with an ATAR lower than 36.00 won't be able to see their UAI) to 99.95 relative to other HSC students.

Exactly, there is nothing wrong with the subjects taken. As long as they can do good in them then why choose harder.

I think Uncle was having a stab at the fact that they wern't Science/Maths orientated subjects.... neither are they high scaling.
