I also did only one application of simpsons rule of the lake bacause of the same reason. Doesn't make sense why it wouldn't be correct.

The lake question required the calculation of the total area of the square, and then the subtraction of the surrounding area of the lake, by using two calculations of the simpsons rule

Can someone explain to be the probabilities in the raffles....

it threw me, i ended up saying:

1/3 x 2/100

and

2/3 x 1/100 + 1/100

which is equal chance.....

Thankyou

Negative. First chick has 2/100 chance of winning AT LEAST ONE PRIZE The at least bit is the key to to the qn. Therefore, the second chick has the probability of winning both, winning first one and not the second, and winning the second and losing the first one. Like this: (1/100 x 1/100) + (99/100 x 1/100) + ( 1/100 x 99/100) = 199/10,000 That's what I got. So first chick has a 2/100, or a 200/10,000 chance of winning at least one prize. The second chick has a 199/10,000 chance of winning at least one prize.

The simpsons rule one is this

4 ( 20 + 20 + 10 ) + 4 (35+88+30)
200+612= 812

Then 55 x 24 = 1320

Lake = 1320-812 = 508 M Squared

ii)

508x0.6 = 304.8 M Cubed

304.8x 1000L= 304800L

304800L /4L = 76200 fillings of the bucket

To previous posters, I reckon it was:

Mary's chance: 2/100
Jane's chance: 2/200

(Because Jane bought 2 tickets out of 200) So Mary's more likely to win.:)

Nope

P(Win 1st and lose 2nd) + P(Lose 1st and win 2nd)

= (1/100 x 99/100) + (99/100 x 1/100)

:)
