First the marks came out, then the ATAR, then we had the day or two to scramble for excuses or enjoy some celebratory cocktails/mocktails...before the world ended. Well it didn't so all of you HSC students are embarking on a new chapter in your lives, many I am sure having developed wonderful HSC success stories.

Share a success story you know of to enlighten us young un's and inspire us for the year ahead!

Merry xmas and a happy new year to everyone :)

Haha oh you guys... It's not a very inspiring story but ok, I'll pick out some spots from my journey when things looked a bit crap and hopefully you guys get some inspiration from there. I'll post it when I finish writing it

I managed to get an exam mark of 82 and HSC mark of 81 for chemistry when I had been consistently getting between 40-60% in chemistry assessments throughout the whole HSC year, including trials.

Some hard work at the end paid off for me!

Also, don't be discouraged by your year 11 marks/peformance, you can dramatically improve. Especially if your learning style was wrong/inefficient (just have to find what best suits you).
For instance, in year 11, I got 67% in my 3u yearly but for HSC I got 96. (simply because I changed how i did maths from blindly doing questions to understanding maths - [just read the intros of cambridge + internet lol] )

What RishBonjour is saying is very true - Year 11 is a year of experimenting different exam and study techniques. You have nothing to lose yet so much to gain in the long term.

Well, at the start of Yr 12 my careers advisor said quote that I lacked the work ethic and my subject combo had to many extensions I couldn't handle in it.

I ended up dux.

On another note, in yr 12-I had so many people expressing concern at my ability to manage extracurriculars and such with the HSC-always being warned to stop taking so much on etc. The biggest example of this was the massive surprised eyes and worried glances when I went overseas June/July right before our trials. Also, taking time off to do debating/public speaking/charity and other extracurriculars. Point is, you gotta be confident in your abilities and what you can handle and not let others doubt dissuade you. It was hard to believe it could all work out in the end with the amount of doubt people had (I had a tiny bit of worry after all that!). I managed a high enough ATAR to not only gain entry to my course(two marks above my goal ATAR set early yr 11), but with entry scholarship and a college place. I wouldn't have had my yr 12 year any other way.

I mean I think most people will encounter doubt along the way especially with high goals. I didn't try and make my story super dramatic-but point is, your yr 11 results can be no way indicative of your yr12 if you so wish. The HSC is not all consuming if you don't choose to make it it so. Elite athletes/performers get through it like one of my friends doing her exams in lockdown in Germany, people who have to care for relatives get through it with great scores, students where English is their second language tame the beast, people with disabilities annihilate the thing and then there's those with massive subject improvement stories (failing maths in jnr school to band 6 in yr 12).

I heard you did amazingly, congrats!

As for myself - I was in the bottom maths class in year 8, was ranked 99/195 overall in year 11, and ended up coming 9th in my grade in Year 12 and getting the second highest ATAR in the grade, including being 5/99 in 4u and 7/166 in 3u. Moral of the story is - it's never too late to make a change, work at it, and you can always achieve what you want. I enjoyed helping barbernator and deswa throughout the year and it's been absolutely amazing to see the results they've pulled through with. There's always hope. :)
