frowned on? lol. any company who acquires another will have a sharp decline in share price in the medium term. to acquire a company, they need to spend a lot of money. where does this money come from? revenue and borrowings. profit decreases, and the risk of default becomes higher.

apparently theyre also acquiring some other bank?

also, look at AGO: pretty crazy stuff. Dropped 12.7% and then a trading halt was called for an annoucement. It's likely going to be a bad announcement.

But I thought that despite spending money, they'd be acquiring a similar amount in assets / implied value.

i.e. equity is similar.

Purchases are made based on predicted future value. If the current value of your company is $100,000: but your projected earnings are $500,000 over the next five years, you would be expected to pay more than $100,000. You would probably pay over $500,000 due to future earnings potential, and not break even until after those five years. Most investors look for short-term gains.

DJI -678.91 (-7.33%)

That's crazy. I'm selling my MQG shares at open as I have a feeling our markets are going to freefall

Don't sell your shares yet! A friend of my dad's said that a large investment firm in Germany is planning on acquiring the company which means that the value of the shares will skyrocket. Just hold out on selling them for a while.

lol 'a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend'. i doubt that they will be acquired in the medium to even long term given how much they would be worth and how fucked the markets are worldwide.

General Motors fell 31% last night. This is why I want to abandon the sharemarket ASAP. Australia hasn't had as significant losses as in the US
