I keep getting better marks in EX1 than I do in 2 unit (I got 85 in EX1 assessment and 75 in 2u). I am interested in doing it, but the only way I can do it with my various subject choices is to do 11 units, when I really want to do 12. If i find EX2 too hard half way through year 12, I'll end up with just 10 units, which I really don't want.

Maths is all abou understanding the concept and being able to apply this knowledge to various questions of varying dificulties. Therfore if you are finding the Ext1 course relatively easy that means that you are understanding the concepts just that u havent been able to apply them - whihc means u need to do more question i.e. practice
So from that indication i say u would be good a 4unit cos youll probably be able to understand the concepts

Yeah, I was in a similar situation to yours last year. My advice would be that your marks for Ext 1 should be around 70%+ and maybe for yearly 50%+. Your rank in your class should be around at least top 10. Also, ask your teacher if you should take it because he/she would probably have the best opinion out of anyone. Just take it and see how you go because you never know if you're going to find it hard or not.

Do it. Have a go.
I tried it for a term (hence my username) but it didn't work out.

Thanks for your advice everyone...The problem that i have is that i am finding MX1 relatively easy but it doesn't correlate into my marks. Only topic i find a little bit tough is Co-ordinate Geometry and thats only because there are a lot of formulae to memorise.
Try doing as many qs as you can for the topic, memorising formulas never helps, IMO.

you never ever know, if you never ever goooO!

take the plunge & put your name down! in my 4u class, 2 kids dropped out before the first lesson [must have seen the textbook hehehe] and another one dropped out after that, and the year before the class started with like 10 people doing it, and then there was none! ha! people drop out like flies and don't wait till they cross the finish line to really reap the rewards ;)

I might have a go but my half yearly overall rank was 14/28...so not very good since i came like 23/28 in my first test. I haven't studied for maths in this whole year until just recently after my last test where i came 7/28.
How should i study for maths? Should i just do past papers or complete some question sets from Cambridge 3unit?

Yea...you do 4unit maths accelerated. You don't really have the chance to drop it.

Shaon0. If you want to compete in 4untis, you need a flexible mind.

What you are doing in 3unit currently requires no reasoning. Just write and write.

This is what is expected of you when you do 4units maths.

Graphs << If i give you a function you skectch it like there is no tomorrow, and the way you sketch is by looking for key points that is stationary, where it cuts x and y axis, asymptote etc etc ( edge in 2/3 graphs )

Complex Numbers << One word, Square root of a negative number. Its not that hard the basics, the only thing you need to be good at is the applicatiions they give you.

Poly << Dont worry same as 3unit, doesn't get any hard or anything. just bull shit
This can give you an edge in 3unit poly

Conics << you heard of locus right,, well this is ellipse and hyperbola.. just some algebra killing

Integration << same as 3unit the only thing new is Inegration by parts thats all =] (( this can give you an edge in 3unit integration ))

Voulmes " same as 3unit.. notthing to it. once you know the baiscs you know how its done.. mainly finding radius and crap

Mechanics << you heard of applications to the physical world right.. think again

you got your x ( double dot ) x (dot) etc etc.. velocity and acc.. say hi to mechanics ( just abit confusing for me )

Harder 3unit : this speaks for it self..

Look at what your getting your self into.. and ask your self.. does this look like me ?

Yea polynomials in Year 12 3unit is really easy...well i find it really easy, graphing can get a little confusing at times but its not that hard.
lol....i haven't done any calculus yet. Our class just finished Year 12 3unit Polynomials and trigonometric Identities.

yea the cambridge 3U textbook didnt have a Polynomials chapter so our teacher just handed out photocopied sheets of the Yr 12 Polynomials Chapter and it was relatively easy as we were introduced to Polynomials at the end of yr 10

Meh. He told me in parent/teacher night I would be able to do it but he warned me of the increased workload.
