Even if it doesnt work as a deterrent, and for me it certainly did, it's an important tool emphasising the teacher's ability to weild unquestionable authority in the classroom. More fire and brimstone, less turn the other cheek imo
So you support teachers giving the caine?

Not only that, sports like rugby should be mandatory. This is a healthy outlet for their impotent rage in the classroom. We need fighters in this uncertain age

Wow. But don't you think it's wrong for teachers to give the caine in SCHOOL?

I mean, personally, I'd love to have been given the caine when I was in school, but I just don't think I could have properly concentrated for the rest of the school day.

I just view school as a microcosm of the society which we live in, and it should not only reflect this society, but make serious efforts to mould good character.
What is life, but performing under pressure and fear?

No. Teachers should not be allowed to administer corporal punishment. It scares other students in the class and does permanent damage to the child's self esteem.

There are some kids who are gifted but very cheeky/naughty.
Arguably, there's no such thing as self esteem. Without the synthesised notion of self esteem the world might be a better place. With no self esteem there would be no low self esteem.

There is no fear in the wider community though mang.

I mean, people are curb stomping cops more frequently these days, because there is a total lack of respect on all fronts. I doubt too many parents would be happy with their little darlings being whacked. We've become a society full of pussies, where parents mollycoddle beyond belief and children grow up to believe they're infallible.

Starts and ends with the parents.

That said, 90% of teachers I had were useless cunts who couldn't organise a root in a brothel, so the chances of me letting them whack my kid are ZILCH.

I don't believe it is acceptable at all, for parents or teachers to use corporal punishment. Imo as a general rule inflicting any sort of physical harm or even minimal interference with another person is acceptable only in self defense.
I think parents should be able to use corporal punishment, laws need to be in place to make sure a smack does not become abuse. The reason i think this should be allowed is because it works. Because it is socially unacceptable now and parents do not do it as much kids are getting worse and worse behaved.

You are a prime example of why abortion should be allowed at 200+ months

I wouldnt trust Exphate to administer the rod.
Maybe base it on some performance indicators. Idk. We have no faith in our institutions to do the right thing by us. THe media has exposed too much grief

I agree with Tully.

Society has past the point where we can effectively reintroduce corporal punishment mechanisms. Parenting used to support the social institutions. Now it works against them.

Respect begins and ends in the home. Without that link in the socialisation chain, the individual remains broken.

Absolutely yes. Without it, teachers are toothless. They command no respect. They cannot get the child's obedience and attention in any meaningful way - it's all carrot, no stick. What we have now are fat little runts with excellent vision and no motivation to do well, other than to 'please' the teacher!
Though I think that this sort of consumeristic, cuddly, individualism is an accurate representation of the broader society anyway.
But I was taught the rod, at home and at board, and it did me a POWER of good, I can tell you!
Do you not see an issue cropping up when you have a 15 year old kid being vulgar and the teacher is an attractive twenty four year old lady?

I see a few things cropping up.
But it's usually the headmaster who administers the beatings. This intensifies the gravity.

But it all begins with the family. Because the family lies in ruins, it follows that institutions like schools, police, parliament, church dont get much trust
I blame the corporations for all this and more

There should just be guidelines for administration.

What happends if there is a hot teacher and the students want to be punished by her or something?

I don't think that they should be able to at all. There will be a way around it 99% of the time, the best teachers will never need it at all.

Although I'm OK when teachers joke around about that kind of thing (throwing white board markers).
