how would i simplify:
A^2 x (Cos^2alpha+2cosalpha i sin alpha -sin^2 alpha)

You can use double angle identities. Specifically, $\cos(2\alpha)=\cos^2(\alpha)-\sin^2(\alpha)$ and $\sin(2\alpha)=2\cos(\alpha)\sin(\alpha)$
