Eh, can we just agree to disagree?

'Cause it's obvious you're not going to budge from your view and I'm not going to budge from mine and I can see this turning into some epic monster of a thread where it's just us two bickering back and forth until it gets closed and deleted.

On a side note, with your subjects, you'll get 95+. Easy.
85's throughout my subejcts (scaled mark) gets me 95.65 in 2005. With English being my biggest downfall, I'm going to need high 80's for all of them. Lol.

Okay, so I got my SC results yesterday, and I got all band 4's and a band 3 (for Maths). But I picked Advanced English for next year. And now I can't decide if I should pick Standard or stick with Advanced. And I do know where I went wrong in the English exam.

But I don't want to do Standard, because English has always been my best subject, and I got a Distinction award for English, and a Credit in Primary.

But maybe I should do Standard, because to do Advanced, we're supposed to have at least a band 5 or 6.

So, you can see why I'm really frustrated trying to decide which English course I should choose. Your opinions would be so helpful.

Thanks :)
No question, select English Advanced >>> Standard. I didn't bother reading if you have or not, so it remains my recommendation.

For English Advanced...
1. Learn techniques and their impacts.
2. It isn't hard.
3. You don't even need to read the text entirely to score well.
4. Use quotes to enforce ideas.
5. Scaling is quite good.
6. Create emotive and seemingly enganging pieces of writing (you don't really need to have the opinion / emotion you hold for the text / idea / event, though it does help), especially for Creative Writing... which both Standard and Advanced do anyway.

Choose Advanced English.

1) SC is a load of bullshit.
2) Advanced English is good regardless of how good you are, at least for year 11. See how you go in year 12, but even if you drop it, you'll have an advantage over the year 12 Std English students.

My recommendation? Do Advanced English for both year 11 & 12.

I know that some students who just really h8 eng or aren't really strong in it just choose it cause they have to... lol if u end up choosing standard don't expect too much enthusiasm from the class... but of course there are students in standard work really hard too... in my opinion advanced shouldn't be too bad if ur willing to do the work and listen to what the teacher is saying in the class... but dats just what i think of course :D

Bullshit. :D

Plenty of the girls in my Advanced English class recieved band 4s in the SC but they did incredibly well in the HSC. Your performance in the SC is not really an indication of what you're capable of.

Give advanced english a go and if it becomes a bit too much for you, drop to standard. Definitely try it out in Year 11 because even if you don't do well, none of your marks will count towards Year 12.

For Adv Eng: Know your texts.

- Understand the themes, motifs, techniques and its purpose.
- Quoting
- Essay structure
- Linkage
- Creative writing (Show not tell)

It's fairly simple. :D

If I were you I would do advanced and if you find it too difficult, you can always drop back to Standard. Good luck deciding. What area of study are you doing?

it's up to you, but stick with advanced and see how u like it, get a fell for it for a little while. if you have done well in the past, the potential is there- no reason why u can't do well now. anyways, best of luck =)
