Starbucks is utter crap, IMO. Gloria Jeans and small cafes FTW. Brewing your own coffee and chai tea is also excellent and more enjoyable if you know how.

A plunger/percolator and good coffee beans works just fine. ;)

Plungers/mokas cannot superheat steam under pressure (mokas do but not to the extent that an espresso machine) to get the type of extraction in a cafe. There's no creama in a plunger and an entirely different type in a moka. Starbucks has entirely automatic machines that were very poor but good cafes have a fully manual one which is much, much better than a plunger and a percolator.

Espresso machine > all.
