students protesting will do a lot more than the one on the weekend. If someone gets injured then, big deal it was expected. if some 12yo dislocates his shoulder, story after story of police using excessive force. Some of you pieces of shit talk a lot, but what difference would it make to the world if you didn't exist?
Haha.

can someone help me out here

i figure the majority of people on this board are either
1 - really sarcastic web ANARCHISTS bent on destruction... seriously if u want 2 post BS go 2 totsie
2 - incredibly stupid (fyi u cant spell conservative without con, get with the program throughout history the conservative leaders the ones who are against the progression of society, ie freeing the slaves in the US or giving the aboriginals the right to vote over here have been... BIG SHOCK the ones that benefit from holding society back, TNR2 didnt fear the spread of socialism/communism through russia because it was such a "SHIT HOUSE MEGA N00B GAY ASS HIPPY LIBERAL EVIL GAY FUCK OFF TOOL PWNED STFU" system it was because it threatened HIM and his position in societ as tsar and the ones who supported him were just to idiotic to see why progress should be made, just like bush removing/lowering (wiki it if u want the info N00B) the tax on dividends, wasnt because those darn thingsd were sending me straight to the poor house, it was because his family and allies benefited from that change in legislation, and the ones who spport it are the ones to stupid to see how this republican idea of a free market is ultimatly going to leave them fucked!)

but its late and i want to go to bed it just strikes me as odd that ther is such a huge conservative bias here and most of it is ridiculous anyway

"fuck off too, immature young puberty fucks" i love how eloquently youve beena ble to present your arguement

"Bush is the best President ever !" why???? reasons???? o right because he refuses to sign kyoto, allowed more air pollution, allowed more cyanide to be put in the US's water supply, turned a budget surplus into a deficit, pardoned war criminals, lied to a nation about the reasons for going into war, chocked on a hotdog, and has made forieign policy error after error in iraq (what has he actually done well, they went in there dispanded all iraqi law enforcemnt polic/army, overthrough the one guy who dick cheney ironically enough said in 1994 was the one stopping the kurds, sunnis and shiites from massacring one another (http://youtube.com/watch?v=YENbElb5-xY), didnt invade with enough troops and has completely ignored the reccomendations of the iraq study group, and so much mroe shit that ic ant b bothered typing becoz i want to sleep

"it wont even make a difference, why bother" collective action, besides its better taking action then just sitting around bitching about how it will never matter

"So you admit that, under socialism, everyone's worse off? I think we're done here."

your an idiot... case closed... next time you make an arguement please support it with facts... at the very least make it sound inteligent

People only dislike bush because it is fashionable.

They don't really understand many of his policies. Most of his detractors understand his time in government simply as the invasion of Iraq (and many people see it as simply as war=bad). How many people can honestly talk about his other policies?

In this particular case a majority of students attending the protest will be there for two main reasons. Firstly to get a day off school, and secondly because they honestly believe that Bush is bad (most of this type will not be able to argue/or reason why. The extent of their understand is that 'Bush is evil')

The Bush administration has:

PATRIOT Act.
Wiretapped US citizens without a warrant.
Leaking an undercover CIA agents name to the media for revenge.
He personally vetoed government money for stem cell research (lol, then held a press conference with children around him, what a dickhead).
Changed abortion laws.
Terrible immigration bill that was defeated in Congress.
Fired Federal attorneys for not being loyal enough to the Republican party then shielded the Attorney-General while he probably perjured himself in Congress ("I cannot recall.").
Refused for prominent people to testify in Senate hearings.
Guantanamo Bay
Denial of habeas corpus (granted as a right in the American constitution)
Tried to expand the role of the 'executive' with more powers than granted in the Constitution.
TORTURED PEOPLE. And also removed people from countries with laws against it, and taken them to some third-world shithole to be tortured there.

What a great guy letting all this happen.

Even if all that were true you'd surely concede that leaders of countries with human rights records that are an order of magnitude worse then Bush will be attending APEC?

Probably not a good idea to start off any given post with a laughable statement. And by golly banco55, you surely don't think that the protestors have forgotten about China, Russia etc. and their human rights records? They haven't. I guess the reason why they focus on Bush is because his administration kills more people per day than the current Chinese communist administration kills per day.

Direct democide far more abhorrent than collateral deaths mostly caused by insurgent groups, etc.

Blocking off the city is not about getting rid of the right to protest. You'll notice that the police are allowing protests. The blocking off of the city is about preventing high-profile, democratically elected leaders of key Australian allies from being harmed or threatened.
so there going to put all the non democratically elected leader out in the open with bullseyes on there heads

People say that we complain all the time about the government but never do anything to fight it. However the world today is in a better state than it has ever been before. The poor people are less poor than they used to be and the quality of living has jumped. People don't protest because they believe in something, they are protesting because some exciting day is coming up and they want to feel special. Protesting has only worked in Vietnam and that was because we were in a bad situation anyway. Ever since then people think they will actually make a difference.
quality of life has jumped because of protest and the poor are poor are not as poor because money has lost value

If that were the case, then surely they'd allow protestors to march through Martin Place, given that it will make very little difference if the protest march does go through Martin Place, in regards to the security of leaders and delegates. The only reason that I can see for not allowing the protest to move through Martin Place, is to discourage the protests from happening, and to discourage people from going (aided by the build up of armed forces with shoot-to-kill powers).

On one of the APEC posters at Central it had:
21 World Leaders
1 Great City

and someone had added:
1 Giant Wall In Between

What's wrong with our generation is our passive and blind acceptance of everything the government shoves down our throats, and apathy for anything that doesn't personally affect us. If you don't want to protest, that's fine, but don't mock those who are standing up for something they believe in.
