Graney, thank you for expressing your opinion, but it's not particularly helpful to my IRP. And yes, most people consider recreational drugs to be the illegal kind, not inclusive of cigarettes and alcohol because they are legal and more widely accepted. People view them differently, as you can see from the answers people give.

A large majority, yes. But there are others I really disagree with, like the laws against same sex marriage

If someone is really sick, and constantly suffering, I wouldn't euthenase them myself, but I think it's OK that other people do it. And some people would view taking someone who's been in a coma for years, and has no real chance of recovery, off life support, as taking their life, but I also think that's OK.

I'd never say it's OK, but there are times when it's less wrong than others - like taking food for your starving family.

No.

Once again, I'm going to say euthenasia is OK (in some circumstances), but I'm not really for suicide.

If the life of the mother or baby is going to be put at risk by carrying to term or giving birth, then yes. If the mother just doesn't want the baby, no. And I don't think people should abort because a baby has a genetic defect (especially Downs Syndrome), unless it's going to be debhilitating (sp?) for the baby.

I'm not actually entirely sure what the restrictions are at the moment. But I'd say that if a person is obviously drunk, Casinos etc shouldn't allow them to gamble (don't know if this is currently a law or not)

I have no problem with the concept of IVF. Letting certain people (hello, IVF octuplets, with a mother with 6 other IVF kids) use it, on the other hand, is a crime against humanity.

..mostly..yes. this is kind of irrelevant, coz it's not my government, but you know that incest rapist austrian father? josef fritz? he imprisoned and raped his daughter for over 24 years, yet for that particular charge, he legally couldn't be sentenced to a life imprisonment. he could only be sentenced for life in jail for murdering by neglect his son. i find that ridiculous.

wow, what a loaded question. I think if the person specifically asks you to take their life, and they're mentally and emotionally sound at that present state, there should be some serious consideration. and taking someone off life support if they've been on it for years is considered to be taking their life, but i think that's ethical.

if its a life and death situation, then yes.

Cool. I'm stuck on an island with no food and 4 other people. One is terminally ill. We'll kill her for food.

exactly. Like I would normally not say adultery was acceptable but they asked 'is there any case where it would be acceptable?' and you can create a case for almost anything where it would be acceptable eg I haven't seen my husband for 6 months and he has a woman on the side, I should think most people would think it acceptable to be unfaithful. and the questioner shouldn't assume people are religious.

Honesty is always the best policy. It depends on your individual circumstances, so say if it was understood that it was an open relationship or you had been estranged for a long time, then yes. But in general, it's better to break up with your current partner first.

Absolutely, it's your life and you can do whatever the hell you want to do with it.

I would never put the rights of a ball of cells over a living, breathing mother's right to control her body.

Why the heck would anyone be opposed to IVF? If it means that a worthy couple has a chance to have their own child, then more power to them. They should probably consider adoption, though - the world is overpopulated enough as it is...

ABSOLUTELY NOT. I can normally tolerate other people's views, but opposing contraception is absolutely ridiculous. I don't want a world full of trailer park kids filling up our already overpopulated world just because some nutjob reckons God wants more kids. Dammit.
