How did mathmite's picture come into circulation?

Mathmite your belt looks terrible. Fucking tuck it into the belt straps, especially if you're going to wear a red one....

after reading those quotes about john howard i respect them, but doesnt kim beazley have more quotes on terrorism or are we simply putting in selective quotes

i like the analogy of saying this war is like fighting generic crime however, its so true (but its more extreme)
Well its a crime to London people and people who are in risk of being attacked and doesn't want to be attacked.
So what makes the Coalition force in Iraq and Afghanistan "legal"? Well pretty much nothing. In fact, they're illegal and are criminals in the Iraqi's and Afghani's point of view, but its just that there's no one to stop them. So basically, Coaltion forces are criminals with no one to stop them, because they're in charge of the police station (United Nations).
So how come they're still there? Because the Americans wants to.
How come the Freedom Fighters are called to be "terrorists"? Because the Americans and westerns are trying to depict themselves to be "right" and others "wrong".
What stops the Coalition Forces from being "terrorists"? Nothing, because they ARE one!!

How can the "terrorists" be stopped in attacking western cities? When the "Coalition Terrorists" stops attacking Islamic cities and get lost from the Middle East and Afghanistan!!!

What indeed?

I think it comes down to two things, he could be:
A smarter than Beazely or,
B a carniving political operator.

Unless anyone here happens to either b howard or a member of his inner sanctum then it would be impossible to tell?

Asqy: not sure if its a typo or a clever witticism. eg report the school to the property authorities. Could be proper mispelt or a reference to property rights...

Is it unfair that he does that though?

Compare him to counterparts in the private sector and yes there are some who are provided dwellings and whose wining and dining goes on the company card.....

I'm sure everyone has seen clips and sound-bytes of the two press confereces the leaders gave (I listened to the on news radio lol). Here are links for those that hav'n't: http://www.pm.gov.au/news/Interviews/Interview1453.html, http://www.alp.org.au/media/0705/pcloo080.php?tv=on.
I would have liked to have seen more Beazely quotes, but I have to say I'm dissappointed with that particular one. I think in his attempt to get in touch with the people by getting a strong message on national security across (Beazely will never forget the importance of foreign threats), he may insult some of the more informed sectors of the public.

Big Kim had to look strong...his 'subhuman' comment was blatantly aimed at winning the xenophobe. At face value it is a comment that is needed. It is a response that appeals to the mainstream. Big Kim cannot get out there and talk about the pros and cons. Balanced discussion does not go well in the political forum. People have no time for that. This of course does not suit big Kim in his longwindedness.

However most know that his comment was not Big Kim in nature. He looks so unnatural trying to be reactionary. You can see he doesn't like to drum up hate. I'm sure he hates what has happened and like everyone I'm sure he hates terrorism. However his choice of words was designed to appeal to the person out there more on the redneck side of the spectrum. Responses in moderation are more what Big Kim is about.
Exactly

To someone like me it feels really false... I know it's a sale

As am I. I'm very disappointed that he would say something as "red-neckish" as that. These are people with genuine issues. We shouldn't be suggesting that we will hunt them down and exterminate them.

Very let-downish for the Labor party. The only party in Australia (besides the greens) which offers a hope of peace, stability and prosperity to this country. We are a loving and law abiding country.

Suggesting that anyone be exterminated may be in breach of the law, mightn't it?
No, look Beazley is a clever man. His attitude has more often than not been genuinely reasonable. But when he starts saying things like that you know it's to win people over. He's trying to punch through with the sound bytes.

He's trying to sell the Labor message (which he has to do). I just think it's sad when you see someone exaggerating their own opinions like that to strike a chord when their ordinary opinions are usually decent. That quote was designed to stir people and get them sympathetic - it elicits an emotional reaction rather than addressing the issue with substantive responses. But that's politics I suppose. You have to do what you have to do.

Howard realises that a tremendous amount of fear has been created globally thanks to Bush and Blair. He can seem calm and collected and I think on this issue he always will, and that can work for him. He doesn't need to say anything big, I guess he's going for sincerity so things such as the christmas troops don't come back and bite him on the arse again.

Beazely is campaigning for support, but his reaction just makes me realise on terrorism Howard is the best choice hands down, and while terrorism is always a threat that is going to work against Beazely.

The reason for less quotes from beazely was the abject lack of 'quotable material', and the shorter overall length. If you can find something more worth quoting then by all means....

anti-mathmite whats with the abrupt about face? First you fellate Beazely for being strong now you criticise him for being a salesman.

I think there is no question that they were both pitching at the opposites camps and trying to target areas they've been weak on (strength and compassion respectively), the question is who did it better? Who managed it yet alienated the least of their power base?

Howard sounded like an experienced, learned Leader/Prime Minister...

Beazely a typical irrational, desperate opposition leader vying to express a tough and 'appealing' stance ...actually quite similar to one John Brogden...

I actually thought that Stephen Smith made a greater impression with his thoughts onthe issue...
