Re: The Official Cricket Thread

Worst toss decision of the millennium but we still get away with it. I think that speaks volumes for the ineptitude of Pakistan rather than how good we are. Paki's got what they deserved after giving Hussey and Siddle a picnic before lunch.

I think it was a little of both. But yes, it still was a bad decision.

Ignoring all that: I would like all pitches to be like this.

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

We batted poorly because it was a green pitch on a cloudy day. Terrible decision from a terrible captain. Victories like these paper over cracks.
Ponting is a great captain. Just look at the statistics you idiot.

Has won the most test matches as captain in the history of the game.

oh yes, a horrible captain

as for being arrogant, australia has been the top cricketing nation for some time, and for us to be coming back into the pack would be hard to take graciously.

Although I don't think Ponting is quite as bad as people say, the amount of wins that Ponting has achieved as captain is a measure of the team performance and nothing else. In terms of the amount of really good decisions that Ponting has made, I'm not sure there are many. I think Steve Waugh was a much better captain but I'm not say Ponting is the worst ever.

Having played cricket at a professional level in the past (2 seasons of 1st grade), i wholeheartedly believe Ponting is not a bad captain. Most of the strategy, which is a big part in any professional team sport, is derived from the coach and the support staff. Ponting just chooses when and how to implement the strategy.

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

Well look at his side? Sure we are in decline with no Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden, Langer, Waughs et. al. but its still a very good side. He has lost two Ashes, he bowled part timers at the cost of a test match victory to save his skin, he is tactically inept. Mind you I doubt Clarke would be all that much better but nothing can change my belief he is a woeful captain.
