re: The Official Football Thread

Bourdeux are a really good team though...they did dominate a group containing Bayern Munich and Juventus after all.....

Anyway...my tips

VfB Stuttgart - Barcelona (5-1) I don't think anyone really gives Stuttgart a chance in this one....

Olympiakos - Bordeaux (3-0) Bourdeux should have too much class with the likes of Gourcuff and co running the show.

Inter - Chelsea (3-2) Hardest game to pick, Inter may have it on paper with inside knowledge etc, but Inter do have a history of choking in Europe.

Porto - Arsenal (4-2) Should have too much class for Porto

Bayern Munich - Fiorentina (4-3) Another hard game to pick.....i think Munich will have the edge but could easily go either way

CSKA Moscow - Sevilla (3-0) CSKA don't play another competitive match until the first leg....Sevilla should be in better condition.

Lyon - Real Madrid (5-3) I give Lyon a chance.....but Madrid should go through thanks to C.Ronaldo, Kaka etc.

AC Milan - Manchester United (3-2) Hard to call seeing as neither team has been particularly impressive this season (although both sit 2nd in their respective leagues), but i see Nesta reminding us all why he's the best defender of the last decade.

I think Ac milan will win comprehensively UNLESS UNITED BUY IN THE TRANSFER WINDOW. ( which they will ) . If they do buy, its gonna be VERY interesting!. As an arsenalist I am pleased with the draw, Thank you Lord for not giving us AC Milan again lol cause they would want revenge.
I feel fiorentina have a good chance against bayern,...very good chance .

Bordeaux are like the dark horses in this seasons CL..good luck to them

4.72 over 40 metres.

walcott is probably the premier league's fastest player.

re: The Official Football Thread

But which one will you take to the World Cup ??

Think Lennon and Becks will probably go and Walcott may miss out. Or will all 3 go to the WC ??
If I was choosing two of the three, I would leave Beckham out. The others have more upside. If I was picking one to start, I would pick Walcott over Lennon every time.

I love how the EPL continues this week too. I'm 10th in the world on IKTS (out of 240,000 people) , do I dare to dream about first prize?

re: The Official Football Thread

walcott can play on both wings and up front. it would be ridiculous to leave him out over one dimensional players like beckham and lennon.

i would take SWP over lennon and beckham.

Beckham one dimensional? Out of the 4 players you mentioned (SWP, Walcott, Lennon and Beckham) he is the most unique compared to the rest

re: The Official Football Thread

Lennon, Walcot and SWP are all quite similar. Based on current form, Lennon would be my starting choice.
Then I would want to bring on a replacement that offers something different if the match plan wasnt working. If the pace and speed is not breaking down the opponent, then I would bring on Becks the crossing and deadball specialist.

No doubt the Capello will take Becks if he is fit.

re: The Official Football Thread

lol beckham is highly one dimensional, even more so considering he'll be 35. bench at best i say.

george best said:
He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right.
ashley young can do what beckham does. only for 90 minutes.

re: The Official Football Thread

in any case, lampard will play, so will gerrard and barry. that leaves one other space which would probably go to a fit joe cole. beckham will probably be selected in the squad... for the caps.
