Advance Australia Fair was belted out with plenty of passion last night. So was the Men At work Downunder song. I felt like getting Youll Never Walk Alone a run, but no one heard me.

haha yeh i had an exam today too... soo underprepared. i stuffed an 80percenter yesterday too, but last night made everything so much sweeter.

Its just over 1 year since Johnny Warren passed away; that tribute on SBS with YWNA was so very moving.... as was Les Murray's emotional tribute at the end. This was the Eulogy delivered by Les at Johnny's funeral last year. It's a pretty sombre passage, but i think it has great relevance and oddly appropriate after the giant leaf forward for Australian Football last night. Reading it brought a tear to my eyes.

John, there are thousands here at your funeral and the whole nation is watching.

We all thought football and the passing of a footballer would never have such an impact in your country.

But we were wrong.

And you told us so...

Times are a changing in your beloved game and there's a fresh wind blowing in a way we would never have believed.

But you told us so...

We would never have thought that a million would play the beautiful game in a country that jilted you.

But we were wrong and you told us so...

We all thought that your country, the one that shunned you as a wog and a sheila, would never embrace your faith.

But we were wrong again. And you told us so...

You told us it should be called football and so it shall be.
You told us so...

You told us to look north and interact with our neighbours in Asia. And we are doing it.

Because you told us so...

So what happens now my friend, my soul mate?

You told us all this and it all came true.

But what do we do now?

How do we do what still has to be done without you?

You told us to believe and to have faith and we do.

But, please John, this is not easy for us.

We believe and we do have faith.

But it’s hard if you're not here to guide us.

It's hard if you're not here to lend us your sharp sense of truth, and fair play.

It's hard, John, if we can no longer sample your sense of vision and exquisite eye for the big picture.

Your gift to us in the football brotherhood was a candle of hope, perpetually burning and keeping us warm.

But now the candle has gone out and we shiver, we are cold and we are lost.

We stumble about in the dark, lonely, bumping into walls of hopelessness and despair, not knowing how to pick up the fight you began.

A fight whose legacy compels us to battle on and try to win it, but do so without our chieftain, our brother, our friend.

You told us that you want your legacy to be 'I told you so'.

Much of what you told us so has already been realised and, in all probability, the rest of what you told us will prove to be true also.

But what you didn't tell us was that you would be leaving us so soon, leaving us naked and unprepared, shocked and paralysed, hopelessly lost, poking around in the dark for your sense of direction.

But, John, we will pick up the fight, we will pull together and we will win this thing.

We will emerge strengthened by your legacies, empowered by your memories, our heads raised, smiling in the face of the blowing winds of hostility and resistance.

We will emerge out of the darkness and the cold and laugh and dance, in celebration of your life, with the strength you have given us, and the belief you have installed in us.

John, you have been larger than life, so who then is this impostor called death with his designs on taking you away?

He will be defied, he will be defeated, he will run off, scurrying into the night and regret he had ever tried.

For he had dared to take on our friend, Johnny Warren...

Ballack wont move for just money, he says. Well, he just turned down 36 million euro over 4 years... It looks as if he is moving. If Sir Alex wants him, he better dish out the moolah, coz Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter and Milan are also wanting his signature.

I think Ballack will go to United if and only if United perform spectacularly well domestically and abroad this season. He's stated that his greatest ambition is to win the Champions League- all of those Italian and Spanish clubs (possibly with the exception of Inter) have a greater likelihood of helping him achieve it at this point in time. I wouldn't sweat too much over it until at least January, more likely at the end of the season.

Well then there is no chance that Ballack will be a Red Devil. :D

Hehe, Maradona is a champion. This article gave me a laugh:

Diego Maradona believes that England's World Cup hopes rest on striker Wayne Rooney.

"Rooney is a very powerful striker, he's very talented and he can take England to World Cup victory," Maradona said.

Rooney can single-handedly shape the fortunes of his team, said Maradona, who with Pele and other sporting celebrities was attending the opening of the Aspire Sports Academy's new sports dome in Doha, Qatar, the largest indoor facility of its kind in the world.

Manchester United striker Rooney was England's outstanding player in their 3-2 victory over Argentina in a friendly between two 2006 World Cup favourites in Geneva on the weekend.

Maradona almost single-handedly won Argentina's second World Cup in 1986. They beat England 2-1 in the quarter-finals with Maradona's infamous 'Hand of God' goal and a second strike voted the best ever in a World Cup tournament.

He said the answer to the biggest debate in football - who is the greatest, Pele or Maradona? - lies with his mother.

"I won't say I am the greatest. But, like everybody, I too believe my mother. And she says I'm the greatest," he laughed.

Maradona refused to accept that he was an inspiration to millions of kids during his prime playing days in the 1980s and that his subsequent fall from grace through drug addiction had a negative impact.

"I believe parents are the biggest inspiration for their children and not stars who appear on the field for 90 minutes or celebrities who appear on television for a lesser period of time," said Maradona.

"I realised that only parents can be real examples and that's when I corrected myself. I changed my lifestyle and transformed a lot for the sake of my two daughters. Now I do everything for them," he said.

Maradona, who with his sublime skills teased and tormented the best of defences in his heyday, said if he were playing now, he would have still liked to play for Italy's Napoli and not for big clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United or Real Madrid.

"I would have definitely opted for Napoli and would have beaten all these big clubs," said Maradona, who captained Napoli to their only Italian Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990.
Oh, an seeing as I wont be back til after the weekend, GO CELTIC!!!!!!

Gerrard drops pants for Crouch

Peter Crouch's team-mates have been taking the micky out of him for his inability to the find the back of the net, so much so that skipper Steven Gerrard has been inviting him to take shots at his ar*e.

Gerrard dropped his pants and positioned himself in goal ready for Crouch to take a shot. Up stepped the former Southampton striker and.... he missed, which saw Djibril Cisse crack up in laughter

Keane leaves United by mutual consent.

Within a year, Arsenal and Man Utd have lost their respective captain and midfield general, although it might be said they'd seen better years.

Roy Keane to leave Old Trafford

Manchester United has today reached agreement with Roy Keane for Roy to leave the Club with immediate effect.

The agreement allows Roy to sign a long term deal with another club to enable him to secure his playing career beyond what would have been the end of his contract at United in the summer.

The Club has offered Roy a testimonial in recognition of his 12 ½ years at Old Trafford.

The Club thanks Roy for his major contribution to the Club during his years of service.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said:

“Roy Keane has been a fantastic servant for Manchester United. The best midfield player in the world of his generation, he is already one of the great figures in our Club’s illustrious history. Roy has been central to the success of the Club in the last 12 ½ years and everyone at Old Trafford wishes him well in the rest of his career and beyond”

Chief Executive David Gill said:

“Roy has been a towering figure at the Club for over a decade. His dedication, talent and leadership have been qualities that have marked him out as one of the true greats. On behalf of everyone at the Club, we wish him every success in his future career.”

Roy Keane said:

“It has been a great honour and privilege for me to play for Manchester United for over 12 years. During my time at the Club I have been fortunate to play alongside some of the best players in the game and in front of the best supporters in the world. At all times I have endeavoured to do my best for the management and the team.

Whilst it is a sad day for me to leave such a great Club and Manager I believe that the time has now come for me to move on. After so many years, I will miss everyone at the Club.

I send my best wishes for the future to the management, players, staff and supporters of the Club.”

So off to Celtic he goes?

Shocking news, you really have to wonder how this'll impact ont he spirit at United from now on. I wonder if Rio will assume the mantle of captaincy on a permanant basis.
