Why should a person be stopped from visiting certain web pages just because they may be subjected to abuse/bullying by another person whilst on that page?

Notice I just said webpages, not websites.

For instance, if someone is bullying you on facebook, you don't have to stop using facebook, just don't go to their page, or block and delete them.

It's not about viewing the page yourself, as such. Sure that makes it worse, but it'd be more about the knowledge that this shit is going on. The knowledge of what people are doing.

Blocking them on Facebook or YouTube doesn't just block out the problem altogether, that's totally ridiculous. The event still happened, and they were obviously bullying the kid a fair bit at school.

That's where libertarianism becomes utterly heartless and stupid. "Just let the little bullied girly deal with it herself, tell her to harden the fuck up."

What if they maimed, raped or killed her in the end? Pretty sure someone's getting directly affected there. Do you still insist on the courts staying out of it then?

Being emotionally hurt is extremely subjective. If we are to say people have a right to not have their feelings hurt online (when browsing sites they can easily just close if they don't like) we can start to ban all sorts of things.

I prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to protecting free speech, and that means preserving a right to unlimited free speech.

If that results in some kids getting away with being mean to each other, then so be it.

It's also extremely difficult and expensive to interpret all the millions of pieces of communication that could potentially be the subject of litigation.

How does a court, or a school principal, determine if a comment was a lighthearted joke between friends or a serious jab.

How serious must bullying be before it can be dealt with in such a way. Is a minor insult like "you're fat" enough?

Is it a good use of limited resources of schools and/or the legal system to be considering such matters?

Additionally, to the above comment(s), I will say that, not only is being "hurt" emotionally subjective, I believe (perhaps controversially) that emotional pain can only be brought to oneself...For example, you can choose to let comments or insults "get to you" or hurt you, or you can choose to ignore them, solely up to yourself.

Those people who get offended by such petty matters really need to toughen the fuck up. Kids will be kids, and emotions are very irrational to say the least.

Just coz you're - evidently - very tough when it comes to abuse. Doesn't mean everyone has to be. People are inherently different in the amount of bullying, stress and pain can take. You can't just tell them that they brought this on themselves, it's all up to them.
