I guess this thread was inevitably going to be created. What are your thoughts? Do you care at all? Any budding law students with opinions on the legality of the thing?

Personally, whilst not a Bulldogs fan i still think that it is a low act and that action (not sure exactly how yet) should be pursued. I dont think this incident should shy away, setting a precedent for future international contract poaching. And his supposed 'friend' or manager seems like a total tool...

contracts mean nothing in professional sport these days

Well wouldn't doing nothing give further weighting to your statement? He was a fairly big asset not only to the club but to the NRL. Somehow i doubt they valued his contract at nothing...

Absolutely. I take it you saw his interview then on Channel 9 where he labelled Mark Guyer a 'dope head'. He really does seem like a dickhead ey, although he is only a 'friend' lol.

having met geyer a few times, i know he wouldn't have the balls to say to his face either. the friends comment seems to be a cop-out of the legal mess that will follow imo, and a cowardly statement too.

yea def i agree completely. That comment was completely uncalled for- the guy seems to be a dog as well, just trying to cover his arse of course. Obviously some legal fireworks are going to start...

two separate issues here:
1. sonny bill breaching his contract. i don't care that this has happened before, the NRL needs to offer clubs some stability by cracking down on dickheads who think that they can sign a five-year contract with a club and then waltz off to play for someone else barely a year later.
2. sonny bill's behaviour in shooting through. two days before a match, without any warning or even a phonecall to his ceo or his coach, leaving his teammates (and a number of charities he was booked to do fundraisers for) in the lurch. that's just appalling and it has deservedly destroyed his reputation.
