Hi mate, The reason why we do this is to not just protect you but to protect our business as well.

If you have an existing 'injury', then return to work and it is aggravated it is then considered to be a work related injury/workers compensation.

A return to work certificate is required to show that your current injury/operation allows you to return to full duties and is not going to hinder you working.

Stay safe. Remember, Destination Zero :) (Talking about injuries, Norwest has a massive injury rate compared to the rest of the business. The amount of people falling down the stairs is just crazy).
HAHAHA, i know about Norwest, my SSM was joking about it to everybody when she went there to give an award on safety (our store has 2138 days LTI free and counting, and they had like 3).

Also, for those in Area 85, does anybody else find it absolutely stupid that internall they're calling the new store out near head office Norbrik, but advertising it to customers as Norwest. so now they're bitching to us that we keep giving them the wrong number for the store (because we're giving them the Norwest supermarket number not Norbrik)

And I had a conversation with some old guy about him getting frequent flyer points and how he always has and something about his credit card and grocery shopping, until i realised he was talking about fly buys.
No he was talking about how his credit card reward points get transferred over to QFF, just like mine do.

you will always start off with very few shifts, thats how it works, be available, and take any shifts they give u, once you've done the hard yards like this for a while, your shifts will become more regular (providing your at least somewhat decent at your job)

When i started, i only had 1 shift in 2 weeks, then got called in a few times when 2IC was sick, after about 2 months of this, i started getting regular shifts as a casual.


Thanks for your reply. It happens that in the paper that I signed in my induction says that I am part-time, not casual, so as a PT, I should have regular working hours, or am I wrong? I cannot wait 2 months without working till I get regular shifts as I have bills to pay.. is it possible to be transferred to another store for new employees like me?

From memory I think you have to be an employee for three or maybe six months before you're allowed to apply for a transfer.

I would also disagree with the assertion that it's because you're new that you're not getting any hours. All the new people in my area also get "raped" with hours, as the other poster put it. Find out your store union delegate and have a chat, they should be able to sort it out for you.

lol yesterday, there was a Service 100 to the backdock. I ran there, and there was a couple (bogan and derro) who tried to steal stuff and escape via backdock. They went into perishables coolroom to find a way back into the store, failed, handed the groceries and stuff over to the STM, exited via firedoor. The women snatched back the groceries, and then the STM tried to get it back. The other guy pulled out a knife (huge ass knife) and everyone jumped back through the fire door into the backdock. Needless to say, theyescaped.

Bit of an adventure. XD

No he wasn't.
LOL OKAY. But I can't understand why he'd say 'something about his credit card' if he was talking about Flybuys. It's credit cards people use to earn FF points, not flybuys which is fairly useless and you might get a toaster out of it once every few years at best.

ah, well, thats a slightly different story, although if you havent signed an actual PPT contract, i dont think there's a lot u can do untill u do. Not sure how much legal weight the letter of appointment has.

I enjoy reading this thread and think I lurked every page before registering, haha.
I work in a store in Queensland, we had our launch of the new store today.
There was cake and a guy playing an accordian and everyone had to wear orange shirts, it was random.

To be PPT I believe you would have needed to sign a contract agreeing to work a set number of regular shifts per week. There is also a minimum number of hours you have to have to be a PT employee. If you're not doing that you've effectively been employed as a casual. You need to kick up a real stink and say you were employed as a PT time employee and have been shafted. I'd start by talking to the store manager and if no love there call HR.

I go past the new supermarket everyday on the way to norwest and the place looks very flash, there are the new woolworths signs plastered everywhere(it does look good).

The "norbrik" word was used in several job advertisements for the store but they then started to use the Norwest name. The brochures for the opening specials have "NORWEST" on the front page so it would be confusing. obviously the Norwest suparmarket located inside the support office is staff only so the number so not much use been given to a external customer.

Joy. New state legislation comes out on Wed, cant serve cigarettes unless you are 18 or over. How gay! Smoke shop was all I ever did!!!!! I did 6-3 mon-wed and supervision on weekends. Sooo pissed off. Not 18 till next year. My CSM was like you can do self serve supervision when we get it. Thats in OCTOBER/NOVEMBER!

38 hours of checkouts....GREAAAAT (Sarcastic) CSM and 2IC are pretty cut, the other gilr that did smoke shop when I wasnt on, is 2 months younger then me so we where the main ones. Now they have to find and train new people.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL WOOLWORTHS STAFF:

For all staff who havent been notified as yet, for the tax year of 09/10 (commencing July 1st), there will be 53 pay periods (for those who get paid on WEDNESDAY), rather than the normal 52 (first and last day of FY10 are pay days, hence the reasons). This MAY have tax implications as PAYG withholdiing is calculated based on a 52 week year. I strongly suggest all memebers consider having extra tax taken out of your pay for this financial year, a form is available from your office cashier.

As a related aside, i've only recently found out that those on PPT contracts who work more than their PPT hours in a week need to have a tax overide envelope adjustment entered in PAYMAS to make sure correct tax is paid. I suggest those who do go over their hours regularly make sure that their office cashier is making this adjustment.

Why Townie? Normally we make an interest free loan to the ATO all year, paid back in July. If you end up owing them it means you got an interest free loan from them, paid back in October or November or something. As long as I'm aware the bill will be coming I don't mind if I end up owing tax. Will be interesting this year however as I did a lot of PPT extra hours so thanks for the info :)

lol. while I've been working at woolworths, this so called legislation has come in at least three times. give it a week and you'll be back on smokeshop, i promise.

What do you mean? They said there is a $1,100 fine if under 18s are caught selling tobacco, so why would they put me back on smoke shop?

As I said, this is in a different state.

But it just makes me laugh when I've heard so many different variations of this so called 'law', yet we always end up chucking just anyone on there.
Last time a new 'law' came out in WA (about April), it was the same sort of penalties. But because we had no one to go in there, it was disregarded completely within a month.

Although, from what you've said, your store seems really concerned with doing the 'right' thing. So I do feel for you.

LOL. Well, I hope thats the case for us too. I could NOT handle 38 hours of checkouts. Cos some week ends I would do smoke shop too, cos me and the other smoke shop girl share supervision week ends. So the week she would do supervision, that would be the 38 hour week of plain old scanning and pressing buttons!

I pray its the same case here, as it is with WA. I LOVE SMOKE SHOP!!!!
