hey guys, say i do 12 units for the hsc year whcih includes 2u adv eng.
will my adv agn be counted towards determining my uai if its my eng is not one of the best 10units

Yes, if you don't do any english extensions.

For UAI calculation there must be the top 8 units counted plus the top 2 units of English - if you only do 2 units of English then both units will count no matter how much better you perform in your other subjects. I'm in a similar predicament to you - I do 13 units and am quite sure English would give me the lowest scaled mark yet, alas, it must count

And indeed mine too, but English isn't so bad, if it wasn't compulsory I would be ranked like 15th overall cos most of the maths/science nerds really suck at it.

i guess its practical... wot use is a fob in a uni that will have eng speaking lecturers and eng assigns etc...

but still.. i wish eng wasn compulsory =]

Yeah, but considering how much english they've incorporated into all the other subjects in addition to the school certificate (to a certain extent), you would think that it'd be more then enough english literacy testing. English can burn in hell for all I care

thats true. so as long as fobs cant get 1337 uais, then i'm up for it actually, i wish they made fobs do it, but people like us who were born here/went to school for minimum 8 years shouldnt have to do it

i like english
although part of the reason its compulsory is to make sure everyone in uni (as ryan said) are able to communicate their ideas effectively, i also reckon the course is pretty interesting
i'm glad i dont believe everything 60 minutes tells me anymore

and its also pretty amazing to see how contexts influences meaning in texts......
