If I plan to go on with my current choices in mind for the HSC;

Ext. 2 English
Ext. 2 Maths
Physics
Legal Studies

But, I choose to do Ext. 1 Mathematics instead of Ext. 2, how is my UAI calculated then if the worst UAI contributor is Physics??

Ext. 2 English = 4units
Ext. 1 Maths = 3units
Physics = 2units
Legal Studies = 2 units

So I have 11units, but Physics is my worst subject. So does Physics get divided up?

each 2 unit subject is divided into 2 and then ur best 10 units are taken. If you do have 11 units and physics is "your worst uai contributor" then all your other 9 units + 1 units of physics will be counted towards your uai. Hope that doesnt confuse you even more :(

i didnt say i was bad it

i said that it would be my worst uai contributor

Yes. It gets divides up. Hey, I reckon you're going to get a high uai. You seem pretty eager to know more about the HSC.
Knowing stuff beforehand, will cause less confusion thus you do better.

lol instead of some arrogant fools who go to good schools and boast that they will get 99 uai + (and I mean that they dont say this because they are smart. they say this because they are 'selective'. which is stupid because they are being so exceedingly arrogant about something that happened years ago)
when they obviously dont know how the system works.

fiddle around with theSAM calculator and look at the pie graph next door.

yeah thanks for that..dont really wanna cause you any grief but you wouldn't know exactly how that 1 unit is determined would you ?

OMG. You never know whether Physics is going to be your worst subject for HSC unless you really did it for yourself or you can tell the future. Until the end of the last year, I always thought Mathematics was my best subject but this year really made me re-consider that. You are only in Year 10 and you don't need to explore the highly sophisiticated world of UAI system and scaling yet. It will further addle your brain. For now, concentrate on the subject selection and make sure you make a right move in regards to that.

Who knows? You might end up changing some of your subjects.

what if i said that was an exampel ?

it wasnt ayway but..i was just curious to know if a unit from a 2 unit course would be included..

Im pretty sure he was just tossing up an example to see how the scaling and units work.But you have a good point all the same

Go on to SAM and type in a bunch of numbers (they dont have to be realistic). On the pie graph, you will notice there are little numbers next to each piece of the pie. These numbers are the aggregate of each subject (how much each subject counts towards your UAI). The max you could get as a total of these is 500 (see 'scaled aggregate' above the pie graph) and a total of about 480 (I think, although it changes year to year) indicates a 100 UAI.

So pretty much for each 2 unit subject you will get an aggregate out of 100. If only one unit of a two unit subject is going to count (ie 1 unit of physics) the aggregate will only be out of 50, as 2 units=100, therefore 1 unit=50. Basically your worst mark will only have half of its influence on your UAI as it only makes up a tenth of your total aggregate rather than a fifth
