Hey,

I looked around the site, hopefully there isn't a thread about this already but...

I'm currently doing 2 unit maths for the H.S.C. The course I'm hoping to get into is a computer science course in UNSW. I already have all the requirements, except the UAI of course...
But the course recommends an "Assumed H.S.C Extension maths" knowledge...Will I really struggle in this course? I mean, I could take a bridging course but I heard that even then I am risking being majorly behind?

What should I do?

you will probably have to put in more work than other students. I wouldnt say you would be majorly behind, its just that things will be less familiar to you.

for example the 1st topic in the 1st year maths course is almost identical to a topic in 4u maths. so obviously some people who did 4u in thier HSC will breeze through it while those who did 3u and 2u will need to spend a little bit more time on the first topic because the material is all new to them.

so thats all it means. they certainly wont deny you entry because you didnt do MX1, but you will need to work a little harder to pass the course.

I wouldnt worry about it too much. focus on getting 88 first. after hsc you should probably consider the bridging course just to make things a little easier for you in your 1st year

No, you can just attend a bridging course for MX1 offered by the University.

do the bridging course. It sets you up for first year math leaving out the useless bits from hsc math

Alright, thanks guys.

I don't mind putting in the effort, as long as, in the end, I understand everything that needs to be understood...

I was just concerned about being incredibly confused and eventually despising my course because of not being able to understand the basics.
