Um Ruchir...he hasn't slandered you.

Slander's harmful statement in a transitory form, eg. speech.

If it was anything, it would be libel: harmful statement in a fixed medium, eg. writing...on a forum/blog.

But even then, they're all classified as defamation in OZ law these days.

SO WHAT I'M SAYING IS,

Get your facts straight before you go around wantonly throwing legal terms at people trying to intimidate them.
The funnier bit is that we had a lawyer talk to us all for 20 minutes about what constituted defamation, and then sent us a document doing the same.

Justin Simon molests young children.

It's not defamation coz its true, and is well documented in academic literature.

I trust you have the same problems with Justin Simon then? Really, the only real problem I've had so far with all that advertising is that massive thing that the Ruchir team did in the Graffiti tunnel. That seemed a bit much, but meh, it'll be graffitied over in a few months anyway, once this is all done.
I haven't seen any waf graffiti yet, whereabouts is it? Yeah the graffiti tunnel one is a bit far, it seemed that some of the paint on the ground was still wet when I was walking in there as well, which would be shit to get on your shoes

Trust me, this is only the beginning. We still have what, 19 days left?

Do a forum search for some of the previous years threads - they were extensive and very argumentative and that was when we DIDN'T have two of the candidates on these forums!

Can we organise a duel? Pistols at dawn would liven up the campaign considerably.

Haha at theatresports today one of the categories was "Worst job ever" and someone yelled out arts student and their demonstration was someone pretending to shoot everyone...
As to the waf graffiti, I went to Manning Bar today and didn't notice any on the way up there. Only place I went to today that waf mentioned. Who hasn't written their name in chalk? Got my vote

WAF, didn't you know that beer is a symbol of masculine patriarchy?

WTF FUCKING SEXIST WANTING TO MAKE BEER COST PRICE AND NOT VODKA CRUISERS?????

If beer was made cost price then cruisers should be free as it is already intimidating for females to come to a male dominated pub thus there must be some kind of concession made to female students to make the situation fair ie. by making men have to pay have women get it free. This is the only way to stop discrimination.

FUCKING SEXIST FACIST HOMOPHOBIC FAGET.

Vote one Socialist Alternative - the only rational party.

Fuck the man, get some bitches.

Get some, bitches.

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread

i am glad this debate is going the way it is.. allows everyone to form informed opinions.

i've already given my vote to ruchir. he sounds more practical and his policies make sense. he came up to me on wednesday in wentworth and sat with me for about 5 mins... i loved his ideas and was excited to hear his reponses.

and by the way simon, the policies you've listed(from nols) aren't the ones he is running on. anyways. the only thing with the radio which does seem to match, he said he wants to take it forward from having a station for only 5 days played during o-week which was implemented last year to having it 24 hours.

with chalk stuff, it happened last year and it happens again. i've seen more justin simon than ruchir chalk but i suppose its to get the name out there. its weird without the eastern ave notice boards this year and i suppose that this a better and cheaper way(unforunately bad for enviro where the chalk goes into the drain and ito the ocean)

with affirmative action, i'm a bit confused but i think the union needs to be looked at a lot more than just aa. it sucks taht women have gone quiet and i am glad they are planning to speak with everyone. and on those lines we shouldn't let this election be an aa sucks one but what are the candidates about.

i jus thought i'd add to this discussion. i just like ruchir for what he's done in the past, and after i read this aboutme on his website, i don't think he needs to run to build a resume. i genuinely feel is running for it because he is passionate.

go ruchir!

It's not just for 5 days during O-Week, it's on for about 3-4 weeks. Running student radio all year would be, imo, impractical and a waste of resources for the following reasons:
a) the quality of presenters is generally lacking (I should know, even I was on there at one point last year :p)
b) reception is dodgy just about everywhere
c) nobody listens to it

The fact that the policies listed are somewhat different doesn't matter, it's the fact that NLS continually run under policies they have no real intention of implementing. This is in contrast to Mark Chan (former Union VP) who ran under the premise of getting a proper membership card to access discounts (which has been implemented), and Simon Fontana (current board director) who ran under cutting the fee (which has now fallen from $270 to $99) and bringing private food outlets to Wentworth (for those of you playing at home, Wentworth was a very different and overall more depressing place back in 2005 with a couple of Union owned outlets and that was it).

I think that it's a pertinent issue, and I'd suggest that Ruchir does too given that he published his blog on AA before I did expressing his support for it. In other words nobody should vote purely based on AA, just as nobody should vote based on any one policy, but it's still an issue and one that is important to make a judgement on.

As someone who was the Sydney Uni Radio Group's Studio Manager for two years, I can tell you that the radio idea isn't practical. We have to contend with other community programs for airtime, as other wavelengths have either all been purchased, or would cost way too much for a Union to afford.
