Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2016

Am I the only one who had no inconveniences with the emails? They all went straight to my alt email as usual. Didn't have to do anything.

So you don't use @ad.unsw.edu.au to access your email?

No, I use my gmail account which gets emails forwarded to it by my zmail account. I don't know where it gets its emails from now though

Ok, but are those things really that useful to you (as in to a student)?

How about when you go for job interviews and they ask about your organisational and planning skills? This would be an excellent example of it. That's the real benefit for you, not some certificate and letter...no one cares about that, no one reads letters of recommendations.
Just got another one. It's from a school requesting volunteers to run a state/national competition, i.e. helping direct people, where to go. Or to actually help in the running of the competition/competitors.

So what's the final consensus on these things? Would I be wasting my time doing this, or will it be good for future me to do it?

The final consensus is there is no consensus, it is up to what you want to do. If you think you will be wasting your time, then don't do it, if you think it's good for your future-then do. We have provided opinions and now it is up to you to make the decision, whatever that may be.

You need to make a judgement call on whether you find any value or interest in doing these things.

Personally I wouldn't do that specific volunteering, I have no interest whatsoever.

k so there's no advantage to doing that sort of thing, apart from your own interest. Great thanks.

Question, how many UOC do I need to complete for the comp sci part of my duel degree?? Am I missing some 'core' courses here, because it doesn't seem to add up right.

Here's all the core courses I have to do (I think) from the comp sci handbook page.

Those add up to 54 UOC.

Similar situation for my science part of duel degree, 5 subjects short after counting all core courses for my major - guess I have to do extra science courses from my choosing? I guess same thing for comp sci if they really are my only core subjects.

That's weird it says 66 UoC of core comp sci subjects but for comp sci there's only 54 core UoC, maybe they mean 12 more UoC of comp sci electives? You can email the cs department they're usually pretty quick with replies

So 66+96 UOC = 162 UOC. Which is definitely short of the 192 UOC required for the duel degree all together.

Yeah definitely confused, might do what you said and email them.
