Hell let's get rid of people's right to vote as well!

EDIT: Beaten by Sarah. FUCK.

EDIT: Sarah, though, Bush has eliminated most of the rights on the bill of rights ;)
Since when does eliminating one right affect the other ones? You're just setting up a 'straw man' argument.

When this kind of thing happens everyone talks about gun control but I think more people having guns would be almost as good. If he walked into that classroom yesterday and 5 or 10 people took out their own guns and shot back the majority of people would have been saved.

Re: Virgina Tech Massacre

Would it be possible to ammend the second ammendment (through referendum, etc.)?

And if so, what good reason is there not to, apart from tradition?

People would never vote for it anyway.

yes it is possible but extremely difficult because of the votes required to amend a constitution. Since a vast number of people in america are against gun ban, it have very few chance of success.

It requires 2/3rd of votes in Congress plus 3/4th of all states (38 states) have to ratify it to come into effect. You would realize that most Southern state, great plains are all republican stronghold. You can see it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:ElectoralCollege2000-Large-BushRed-GoreBlue.png

This kind of thing is exactly why we should restrict immigration. (and limit international students at Australian uni's)

EDIT: Religion and Communism killed millions of people, let's ban those too FANTASTIC!

You're in favour of all of those, too, right, neb?
Hey man, communism didn't kill people, as there's never been a true communist country (got out of that one pretty luckily). Religion? Pffft.

lol nice save.

Maybe we should ban islam though? that causes many people to die every day.

Its funny seeing like the "international reaction" about how america is obsessed with guns or some shit...but really wether they are obsessed with guns or not this is the exact opposite, this is a good reason for concealed carry permits to be issued to everyone.

If it had happened in a uni that was actually "obsessed with guns" then atleast 1 person would have pulled out their firearm and turned him into a pink mist. We would be looking at a death toll of a couple of people instead of 32+ murderer. It would have been interesting to see how it would have gone down at Texas A&M Uni.

Exactly why people need to support guns rather than try and make everyone feel bad about having them. You make people feel guilty for carrying them and then you have something like this happen and no one is able to protect themselves.

Whatever! This kinda thing is soooo rare that the accidental deaths and stuff that would occur if guns were easily accessed would be more than the amount of deaths from massacres.

Guns are already easily accessed and will always be easily accessed. The only issue here is about whether people were carrying them at the time... unfortunately they weren't.

it is a terrible tradgedy that may or may not have been prevented by a number of factors.
however, it happened and we can't change it.
I don't think it would be possible to disarm all of america and i think it would be a bad move to try and do so, as a. president bush is already disfavourably looked on and b. they have more important things to focus on like that big war somewhere in the world that is costing hundreds of lives every day.

Hopefully america will come to its senses without the need for laws and be more responsible with their weapons, or maybe make more guards against events like this happening, although its a hard to stop one person like this doing something as spontaneous and unexpected.

To the person who said we should ban religion and communism because they also killed lots of things, i frankly think that comment was a touch immature. It is clear that we are talking about different things here, as religion and communism are ideas not weapons and in many cases guns were used to carry out killings in the names of those ideals, therefore it was in fact the guns doing the killing. You can't kill just with the strength of your belief or your dedication to communism.

Unfortunatly weapon availiability is another thing which the world has to deal with together these days. It makes terrorism as well as these more domestic events so much easier. But i don't think that just banning guns would have helped - it would probably have meant the guy would have gone on the internet and found a website which told him how to make a bomb with readily availiable materials, and then he may have caused greater devestation.

Frankly, i don't know if there is anything anyone can do about this except respect the families involved by not using public media as a forum for debate about this, at least for a while, though i think it is inevitable that it will be on the presidential election agenda now that this event has occured in, though it might be crude to say it, a timely manner for US politics.

Guns arn't easily accessible in Australia to average joe. Sure, you can get them on the black market but how many self respecting teenage angsty nutcase myspacing teenagers have the ability to purchase a chash of weapons on the blackmarket to kill lots and lots of people?

Personally I wouldn't know where to get a gun. Sure, when I was in yr 10 I had a fasination with guns and their technicalities but i had no idea how to get one - other than dealing with shady lebs (I believe ACA taught me that).

Every time a gun crime on this scale happens the same old arguments are trotted out.

Pro gun: if the other kids had had guns, they would have shot that one gunman.

Anti gun: if no-one had guns, no-one would have been shot.

The whole argument, summed up in two sentences.
