what I WISH I were reading, and have been slipping it in on the side... "Calcium Made Interesting", miscellaneum concerning Graham Chapman <3

and hesketh pearson's bio of Oscar Wilde, because I'm ALWAYS reading a Wilde bio, man.

For School: The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Just finished it
It's one of those classics that are mentioned... the decline of 'the american dream'
I really enjoyed it but I'm not quite sure if I would put it in my top 10

For Myself: The Power of One - Bryce Courtenay
It's well and truly is... well.. powerful
I really recommend it, it's a great read

I've just finished reading Desert Flower - Waris Dirie its an autobiography about a Somalian model growing up as a nomad in the desert and she talks about her experiences and how she got to where she is today. Its really good book.
Now I've just starting The Pact - Jodi Picoult I'm loving it so far!

Moby Dick by Herman Melville - it can be difficult to get used to the language at first, but I'm about 70 pages in and it's great, the author has a real knack for storytelling.
Also just finished My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell, which was cute. All the family dilemmas and the ridiculous situations they got themselves into made me laugh pretty hard a few times.

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, who was formerly one of Australia's Most Wanted men following his escape from prison in the 1980s. This book is an account of his life as a fugitive when he makes it to Bombay and everything that happens afterwards: life in the slums where he deals with fires and cholera outbreaks, rescuing prostitutes from bordellos, trying to stop a serial killer, sorting out murderous Nigerians after a dodgy deal, working as street soldier, enforcer and smuggler for the Bombay Mafia and becoming a gunrunner in Afghanistan. And that's just scratching the surface of its 900-odd pages.

If there's only one book you read this year, make sure it's this one.
