i reckon the average student would be a talentless hack who got a 57 uai who transferred in from tafe.
Within science in 2009 at Parramatta, I’d say you're correct. Although talentless may be narrowing the profile just a slight bit too much. I know guys that got in the 50's for their uai but were just lazy and are genuinely intelligent, were as others are just wasting god knows whose money.

UWS isn't a good University. Pretty simple.....
Succinct, but I'm guessing general reasoning isn't your strongest asset. Usually someone that produces that kind of statement would give some sort of logic as to why you feel compelled to say this in public domain. It shows what sort of caliber your comments can be held in.

whatever helps you sleep at night mate..
Another classic one liner for the ages, you may add it to the list along with all the other perpetual garbage.

Yes, but at least I have said that I am comparing MQ and UWS AND talking about UWS in it's own right. Most of the prior posts dint even compare it, they just say how crap UWS. Gooduck to the OP, hope you aren't scared off. So sick of these threads, nothing good comes out of them, all you get is flaming and many comments with no real basis

Mamre Christian College? Worse then TAFE....
People like you and Melsc should address us Go8ers as 'sir' or 'master' or 'upper' if you would like a response.

oh come on now melsc - i'm as pro-uws as you are...well, mebbe not. I'm on your side though! Anyway, my point is that everyone here probably has a good basis for their comments. There are some tards in here, for sure, but you've gotta admit that less funding, lesser entry standards, less facilities and having more poor people (im a socialist, i don't like it but it's true!) who haven't had the advantage of an expensive private education, all contribute to at least something negative.

:)

I agree there are some downsides but most of the people here don't even mention them, rather just mouth off. I guess the moral is either state your reasons or face the possibility that you will be accused of mouthing off baseless claims. All I hope for is that the HSC kids get a chance to see both sides (and the reality of both sides rather than the my dad's friend said UWS is crap)

But Universities such as UNSW, USyd, ANU are simply better than UWS, Australian Catholic Uni, TAFE, etc. The only reason why someone would attend the latter is because they couldn't achieve a good enough ATAR. It's really quite simple. If you deny this point, you are simply denying reality.

All that really means is from a supply and demand point of view, fuelled by prestige etc.

Of course people will chose UNSW, ANU, USYD etc over UWS etc but that does not mean the university is bad. Sure they have problems but they are all reputatable institutions. Also comparing Tafe with uni is stupid THERE IS NO SHAME IN GOING TO TAFE, especially when Tafe is aimed at different things, just because its easier to get in doesn't mean you should think less of people who go there, some things are only taught at tafe.

ATAR doesnt tell you much about the uni or the student. I know great students with terrible ATARS.

I am not denying that UWS may not be as good but that doesn't mean its not worth attending or that you wont get a good education. That is all I want to get across.

Best of luck to those looking to get a university place, I hope you get the ones that you desire and that it meets your expectations.

It is fueled by the quality of the institution....How do you think these Universities maintain their 'prestige'...?

No doubt you would have rather gotten into Usyd/ANU B Law, rather than having to muck around at UWS/Mac doing social studies in order to work your way into a low tier law course...

No...someone cannot be called a 'great student' if they do not have a decent (90+) ATAR. Unless your definition of 'great student' is something other than what it denotes in reality. I think the ATAR/ENTER is the best representation of a student one could hope for, sure its not perfect, but what other system could be more balanced, more thourough and more precise? Sure there might be highly intellgent people who for whatver reason get a terrible ATAR, but I would argue that they are obviously not great students if they are intellgent but yet cannot then tranpose this intellgence into a good ATAR (that after all is what being a good student is about).

I got straight into my law courses not that, that really matters. I could have done DFEE for UNSW, if I really wanted so in a way I did have the choice. I'm sorry while prestige is based on quality to an extent, prestige is also dependant on other things like perception. Its like brands really, often the quality isnt much difference but you're paying for the name.

The problem with the ATAR is a great students can end up with a bad one simply because they went to an underfunded school, picked the wrong subjects, is not good at formal sit down exams etc. I know law students who had ATARs (UAIs as it was) of around 70 who now pull anywhere from C's to HD's in law courses....but of course their academic ability is determined by their ATAR.

None of this is helping the OP so I will leave it there. I know you will never agree with me, I of course must be stupid because I went to UWS.

He'll never agree with you because he is trolling, not because he knows you are stupid.
