do we need a title?
Yep. And I think you need to write a little speel about it too (like the comments you read in the Art Express books)

I have no idea what my title will be, maybe "Hell: it's what you make it"

Oh and to OP, nice name :) how big is your painting?

You don't need a title or a 'little spiel', however they can be useful in helping your audience understand your work.

yeah but sometimes that gets a bit boring...so many artists (professional and students)title their works untitled... BORING! to me that just stares... ran out of time or couldnt be bothered.... try and thing of an uber title!

Goodluck!:)

Mine is 'Last day, Next day', personal work dealing with my past and future, so I thought I would use the phrases I used for 'yesterday' and 'tomorrow' when I was a little kid

True you can leave it untitle to let the "audience make up its mind." However, if you do that its name becomes your student number. I recomment having a title that doesn't hammer in your message or doesnt sound pretentious, just something that nudges the judges to your way of thinking. (avoid teen angsty stuff)

Japanese Landscapes: Colours (was it colours? or was it monuments? can't remember) that strike a memory.

Or something like that. It was a makeshift title for the school's art exhibition and it didn't end up being used because my art teacher couldn't find the print out of my work's title and artist's statement ): (So the 'citation' with my work was just "(Student Name), Year 12 Body of Work" lol.
