Metaphor? 'Fly' in relation to 'batman'?

Assistance?

Hyprebole because of the exaggeration in the word fly. Reference to another text (Batman) is also a technique but I can't remember the name for the techniqe.

It's not hyperbole...

It's very clearly a pun. The double meaning that exists is the idiom of 'flying into' a place you are excited about and the physical act of 'flying'.

09ers :p edit: and 10ers

In your defence, kaz1 mentioned it first.

Also, it *can* be a metaphor (as x.Exhaust.x identified) but pun is more specific and precise.

what about this one?

“If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then these girls must be blind”

*quote of a recent TodayTonight episode about top 100 sexiest people*

is it also a pun?

might use it in my english essay tomorrow....

I'll have a jab and say it is an extended metaphor and then be proven wrong by some uni student.
Reason: Beauty is compared to the eye and then extended to say that the eye is blind thus saying there is no beauty.

Well you're half-right there because you'll be proven wrong by myself - an english teacher :)

If you wanted to be intensely specific with that quote “If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then these girls must be blind” then you would comment on multiple language devices ie:

The idiomatic structure that frames "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is undercut by the subversive humour of "these girls must be blind". The collaboration of pun and inversion of the conditional "If..." suggests that the named 'girls' lack aesthetic discretion.

Sometimes there's not just 'one' answer, but a multifaceted 'answer' :)
