I'm in year 10 at the moment and have to choose my subjects for year 11 and 12 in the next month or so. I have thought about it and I am thinking of doing:

extension 1 maths, extensoin 1 english, chemistry, physics and geography.

which is 12 units which is what you are required to do in year 11, but i have heard that ou need to do atlest 6 subjects aswell. Is this true?

Anyway i was also wondering is it a good or bad idea to drop a subject and only carry 10 units into the HSC or should you do 12 units as a "back-up"?

Any advice what so ever would be appreciated very muchly.

Cheers

first, just see how you go next year. If you do really well in all of them and still enjoy them, keep 12units

Lachlan? :haha:

Not true. You don't need at least 6 subjects.
As long as you make up the 12 units for Preliminary HSC.

12 units is obviously the safer option.
However if you are confident enough, do 10 units.
Less workload, somewhat more free time and you're also able to dedicate more time to each subject.

You are technically doing 7 subjects:

Advanced English (2), Extension 1 English (1), Mathematics (2), Mathematics Extension 1 (1), Chemistry (2), Physics (2) and Geography (2).

And if you meant as in like year 12 you must do at least 4 different kinds of subjects... in Year 11, there are no restrictions, just 12 units recognised by the Board of Studies.

edit: and yes, it will probably feel like 7 subjects... the workload for Maths Extension 1 isn't light (but in EX1, the kids at my school don't get too much although they do have a lot of assessments)... so yes, it'll still feel like 7.
