Hey everyone,

I am about to pick my timetable @ UNSW but I have the option of doing maths or higher maths, Phys or higher phys and etc, do these have any real benefits? Wouldn't it be easier to just choose the easier subjects? What is the point of having the advanced courses? I am really confused?

Thanks

You do the Advanced courses if you're smart. Are you good at maths? Take higher maths.

It may be a requirement for certain degrees.

I do advanced units for the fun of it. It's interesting.

If its easier why doesn't everyone just take the easier courses?
Because people don't always want to take the easy way out. The higher courses will most likely be more interesting and push you more.

Same thing as General math vs advanced math (They both have same units)

advanced courses generally, have smaller classes. so you may have a better learning environment as a result.

That's true. I'm looking forward to meeting all 12 of my classmates in Higher Stats this semester.

Though seriously, Advanced courses are good because you're at uni to learn. If you really like the subject, take the higher version. That's what it's there for.
